HOMEMADE CHRISTMAS

Do you have small children and want to give them a Christmas they’ll never
forget, without spending a fortune on decorations? Did you know you can make very special Christmas decorations that your kids will never forget and will have for keepsakes when they have their children?

To make your own tree decorations all you need is some water, flour, and a
little bit of imagination. Add water to the flour until it gets to the
consistency of cookie dough. Roll it out flat, put your child’s hand on the
dough and follow their handprint with something dull so that you can make
the impression on the dough without harming your child. Cut it out the rest
of the way and put a little hole in the bottom of the palm for hanging. You
need to cook these at 350° F until they become hard. Roughly 13 years ago my mom, brother, and I made these for Christmas and we still have them. In fact they go on our Christmas at dad's every year.

Do you have any old cookie cutters sitting around? Instead of using your
child’s hand print you can cut out some angels and other Christmas
characters/symbols to add to your Christmas tree. Use the same idea as
before and don’t forget to cut out the hole for hanging. After they come out of the oven and dry, you can paint them with your children. String some yarn through the hole so that you can hang them on your tree. Don’t be afraid to be creative!

Tinsel makes a huge mess when trying to put it on a tree with young children
running in and out of the house, so why not do something more creative. Make
some popcorn and use a needle and thread to string them together and wrap it
around the Christmas tree. You could even string some of you’re homemade
decorations in with the popcorn so that when you wrap the popcorn string
around the tree you’re decorations will dangle off the string.

Add some lights to your tree and you will have a very beautiful Christmas
tree that has a little touch of love throughout it. Hopefully you find that
your children will love this idea just as much as I did when I was younger.
The Christmas decorations you will make will not go bad and you can use them
year after year. If one breaks in a few years from now don’t worry about it
just make some new ones. You’re never too old to enjoy a little touch of
family love and happiness at Christmas time.
