NEWS REPORT - LEOPOLD'S LOCKED ROOM Today the Boston police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of Monica Stevens. Ms. Stevens died on the way to the hospital following an incident that occurred while she was attending her niece’s wedding. The first suspect, Captain Leopold, was found at the scene of the crime with the door locked and his gun in hand. He was later found innocent and all charges that were against him were dropped. A Mr. Thursby is now under arrest for the death of Monica Stevens. Captain Leopold and Monica were once married 15 years ago. When Monica had wanted to go to Hollywood to become an actress Leopold refused to go because he was doing so well on the police force at the time so Monica left him. Shortly after arriving in Hollywood and having no luck with the acting career she had had a nervous break down. A year later Leopold had received his divorce papers. For the past 15 years Monica had wanted revenge on Leopold since she believed it was his fault for all her past mistakes. The wedding had become the perfect opportunity to get her revenge. Leopold had decided to visit the bride and groom at the wedding reception knowing that if he didn’t attend it would only be because of Monica. Leopold had said, “If I stayed away it would only be because of her.” Upon arriving at the Sunset Farms, where the wedding was held, he had run into a few of Monica’s family members. Leopold also got the chance to meet Monica’s boyfriend who was pretending to be a doctor at the time. He was even introduced to Leopold as Dr. Felix Thursby. Moments before the introduction Thursby had switched Leopold’s gun that was in his holster with a gun that matched his in every way except the serial number. Many of the wedding guests said that they had seen Leopold and Monica talking with each other and had watched them enter a room that was cut off from the rest of the reception. Leopold has stated that upon entering the room Monica immediately locked the door. They had had a heated discussion about the past and Leopold even remembers Monica saying that, “You’re going to know what I knew. Bars and cells and disgrace. You’re going to know the despair I felt all those years ago.” She had stated this moments before she was shot. Moments later the doors were unlocked from the outside and Dr. Thursby rushed to Monica’s side, being the only doctor in the room everybody believed him when he said she was nearly dead. He later went in the ambulance with her on the way to the hospital. He rode in the back of the ambulance with her alone since everybody thought he was a licensed doctor. The police later found out that she was not shot in the room where everybody believed she had been shot. She had pretended to be shot using an explosive device professional actors used to make a gun shot look real. She caused the device, that was strapped around her bosom, to go off by lifting her arm up as if to shield herself and was screaming “No! Oh, God, no!” Dr. Thursby had ridden in the ambulance with her to finish her off so that when she arrived at the hospital she would be pronounced dead and he also wanted to remove the explosive device. Earlier Thursby had shot off the gun he had planted on Captain Leopold and later reused the same bullet in a zip lock gun, which wouldn’t have changed the rifling marks on the bullet, when he shot Monica in the chest. The police caught on that something wasn’t right when they noticed the bullet hole in Monica’s clothing did not look to be made from a .38 caliber. When the police went to arrest Thursby all he had to say was “I just held the gun there and she pulled the trigger herself. She did it all herself, except for switching the guns. She hated you that much.” Felix Thursby turned out to be a professional pickpocket. Author's Note: This news report is based on the popular short story fiction "Leopold's Locked Room".
