SNOW It’s just a few days away from spring right now but it sure doesn’t feel like it with all that snow around! Over the last few weeks we have had a couple small and large snow storms that resulted in loads of snow. There is so much snow outside that people just don’t know what to do with it. There are many things that you should know when dealing with snow and snowstorms.
If you are outside shoveling any amount of snow make sure you’re warm, and if you start to get sore from shoveling try shoveling in a different position or moving to another spot that needs to be shoveled. Adjusting or moving to another spot will give some muscles a rest and will put others to work, I find this helps especially when you have loads of snow to shovel. Another problem with snow is allowing it to pile up on your roof tops. This usually doesn’t become a hazard but it could prevent a potential disaster if you live in an older building. Many people have found that out the hard way this year and it’s just a good habit to get into since you never know when the snow is going to come off by itself.
During stormy weather in the summer or winter there is always a chance for a black out. What do you do or need during a black out? Well many things. The first thing you could do, if you notice a storm is brewing, is take out some candles and leave them in a place where there easily accessible if the power does go out. That way if it’s night time you won’t have to go running around looking for candles in the dark. If it’s daytime and close to the evening when the power goes out candles will be one less thing you will have to worry about. You should also store some water in jugs or bottles so that you will be able to have something to drink without needing to open the fridge all the time. Something else that you should do is cook up some food so that if you’re power goes out you will have food made up in case it is out for a long duration. These are good things to do when you are anticipating a storm because you will have food, drinks and light during the first bit of a black out. In case a black out occurs and you are not prepared you should have a container somewhere with a few supplies since you can’t always anticipate a black out. A few things that would be handy to have in you’re emergency kit is canned food, water, extra blankets, and anything else you think could be handy to have.
