STEM CELL RESEARCH - HALF HUMAN, HALF SHEEP

Scientists have discovered a way to inject a sheep’s fetus with stem cells from a human. This means when the sheep is born it is 15% human and 85% sheep. I cannot imagine later in life looking at a sheep and knowing that if my brain stops functioning my brain will be replaced with it’s. So far from these experiments all the scientists know is that they have created a sheep with a partial human brain.  Does it even look like our brain?

What is going to happen when they do there first transplant? Placing this “body part” from a sheep into a human? Are we going to have a human walking around unable to speak, think and eat on their own? It is quite sad when these are the questions we now have to ask ourselves as a society. It used to be just worrying about who’s going to blow up the CN Tower or how’s going to break into our home next?

The only reason scientists are doing this is to save lives but we are all meant to die, so creating human body parts is just making our life span longer. If we are meant to die why can’t we just accept that fact? True, it’s hard to face reality when a loved one passes away but how long will we live if we have 5 sheep for everybody? We could live a couple hundred years and how many children will we have? How much more over populated is our world going to get? Maybe people dying is a way to make sure the world doesn’t become over populated.

There are many problems that come along with this. What if some mutant virus comes out of this? Sure we can handle it, right? Wrong!!! What does Aids, cancer, influenza, and SARS have in common? They have all killed thousands of people, maybe hundreds of thousands, and nobody has found a cure for any of them. So why not just mix some body parts from other animals all together and create some world wide epidemic of diseases of sorts. It’s not like we already don’t have enough things to deal with.

As you can probably already tell I am greatly opposed to this and not because of religion but because we as a society are slowly killing ourselves off. I think for many people religion will play a great roll in this. What will your God think when you go to the hospital to have a sheep’s brain implanted into our skull. After all, it is his creatures you are butchering. I know what many of you are thinking. We go out and kill animals all the time to eat. This is definitely not the same thing though. Are you going to eat these sheep after you have taken their brains and planted them into your head? Surely not! The hospital will take there poor lifeless body and throw it in a waste site somewhere where we never have to see the animal again. They will say they are throwing the sheep away to prevent disease which is a very funny concept.

The last thing I want to say about all of this is what if they really do inject the sheep with more human cells and create a sheep that is 85% human and 15% sheep? Will the sheep learn to talk? Nobody will ever know until the day comes when some mad scientist goes ahead and tries it. Do you really want a talking sheep?
