A Good Day for Fishing

A GOOD DAY FOR FISHING written by Debbie Williamson Fishing Frank was sitting in his fishing boat looking out over the Atlantic Ocean. His crew were all busy around him, doing their chores but they were very slow about it. "What is going on?" Fishing Frank asked Harry, his crew foreman. "What is taking the crew so long to clean up today?" "The crew are upset," said Harry. "They are upset because they haven't been paid yet." "I see," said Fishing Frank. "Unfortunately, we haven't caught a single fish yet and until we do, the men won't be getting paid. Now, lucky for the men, today is a good day to fish." "So would it be safe to say that the men will get paid by the end of today?" asked Harry. "Only if they can hurry … Read entire article »

August in the Mountains

AUGUST IN THE MOUNTAINS written by Debbie Williamson Hello everyone! This is Mountain Mike from British Columbia, Canada. It is the month of August here now and it is very hot.   August is the time of year that we folks in the mountains get out and enjoy the hot weather and fresh mountain air. August is the time of year that a lot of outdoor activities take place.   I like to spend my August days at the lake. I like to go fishing a lot. It is very relaxing to be out in the middle of the lake on a hot day in a boat. There is nothing like it.   I usually go fishing at the crack of dawn, just before the sun comes up. I usually see a bald eagle soar in the sky, … Read entire article »

Autumn in the City

AUTUMN IN THE CITY written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! This is Cecil. I'm the Canadian Brother that lives in Ontario, Canada. It is now autumn in the city and while it is beautiful here in the city, to really enjoy the autumn colours, city folks take a drive to the country regions of Ontario. There really is nothing more beautiful than an autumn in Ontario. Ontario is home to the most beautiful maple trees. Maple trees turn beautiful shades of red, brown and gold in autumn. People from the city love to take a drive in the country during the autumn months. They love to get out of their cars and take walks in country parks and walk through the layers of coloured leaves that have already fallen to the ground. It … Read entire article »

Autumn in the Mountains

AUTUMN IN THE MOUNTAINS written by Debbie Williamson This is Mountain Mike, the Canadian Brother from the beautiful province of British Columbia, Canada. It is now autumn in British Columbia and it is so beautiful here. The trees have started to turn colour and there is a thin layer of snow on the tops of the mountains. It is starting to get cooler during the day and very cold during the night. The animals are very busy in the mountain at this time of the year, scurrying around for food. It is fun to watch the squirrels and chipmunks go from tree to tree storing their stash of acorns. They seem in such a hurry and don't even care that I am watching them. They will soon enter their hibernation for the winter … Read entire article »

Autumn in the Prairies

AUTUMN IN THE PRAIRIES written by Debbie Williamson Hi this is Prairie Pete. I'm the Canadian Brother that lives in the prairie province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Sorry, I don't have much time to chat with you right now. Autumn in the prairies is a very busy time of the year. There is so much work to be done and probably not enough days to finish it before the snow starts to fly. I get up at the crack of dawn and I work straight through the whole day, stopping only when the sun goes down and it is too dark to do any more work. At night when I come into the house my whole body is still and sore from all the work and a nice hot bath is in order, even … Read entire article »

Canadian Summer

CANADIAN SUMMER written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! This is Mountain Mike. I live in the mountains in British Columbia, Canada. A lot of people think that British Columbia only comes alive in the winter time because of the ski season. Skiing is a big thing in BC however, so is fishing and hiking. During the summer months, I love to hike into the mountains. I love going right to the very top and just looking over the edge. I get such a rush looking down and seeing the river below look like a little dotted line and full size cars looking smaller than toy cars. I've been right to the top of the mountain, right where the cloud meets the sky and a few times I have even been up higher than … Read entire article »

Christmas in the Mountains

CHRISTMAS IN THE MOUNTAINS written by Debbie Williamson This is Mountain Mike. I am the oldest of the Canadian Brothers. I live in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. The Christmas season has hit the mountains and I want to share it with you. The first thing that I must do is get myself a Christmas tree. Since I own over one acres of forested land, you would not think that this is a difficult task. However, it can be very difficult to find just the right tree when you have lots of choose from. What I do is actually search all year long and when I find the perfect tree, I mark it. I find this works the best. I have my saw in hand and I'm walking out into the bush to … Read entire article »

Christmas with Mountain Mike

CHRISTMAS WITH MOUNTAIN MIKE written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! This is Mountain Mike. I am the oldest of the Canadian brothers. I want to tell you about how I spend my Christmas season. Christmas is my favourite time of the year, especially living in the mountains in British Columbia, Canada. The Christmas season is almost magical here. It is so beautiful with fresh Christmas snow falling to the ground. It makes you feel alive and makes you feel so good. All summer long, while working in my bush land, I search for the perfect Christmas tree and I remember where that Christmas tree is, because come the middle of November, I am there to cut it down. Now, getting the Christmas tree home is another story. I bring a team of horses up … Read entire article »

Decisions

DECISIONS written by Debbie Williamson Mountain Mike became ill one winter, while he was living by himself in his cabin in British Columbia, Canada. A neighbour had stopped by just shortly after the illness began and found Mountain Mike all curled up in bed with nothing to eat. "Thank you for looking after me," Mountain Mike said to Ernie, his neighbour. "I really appreciate it." "That is what neighbours are for," said Ernie. Soon after his illness, Mountain Mike received an unexpected visitor. "Mother!" exclaimed Mountain Mike, when he opened the front door to the cabin. "What are you doing here?" "Get your winter coat on," said his Mother, entering the cabin. "You are coming home with me." "No Mother," said Mountain Mike. "I am staying right here." "You could have died up here all by yourself," said Mother. … Read entire article »

Grasshoppers

GRASSHOPPERS written by Debbie Williamson      Hi everyone! This is Prairie Pete from Saskatchewan. Remember me. I am one of the Canadian brothers. I am the one that owns a cattle ranch and wheat fields.      This past summer I noticed an infestation of grasshoppers. Even though I noticed a lot of them this year, it really could have been far worse. I heard from a friend of mine that the grasshoppers were heading for a bumper year this year because of the drought that we have had in the prairies over the past couple of years. However, many of the grasshopper eggs were killed by the torrential rains that we received in early May.      Grasshoppers can be a real problem on the prairies, especially in the wheat fields. They will feed on … Read entire article »
