Blue Jeans

BLUE JEANS written by Debbie Williamson "Hey Mom!" Jodi yelled from her bedroom. "What is it?" Mom asked, as she was in the kitchen preparing Jodi's breakfast. "I'm not wearing these jeans!" Jodi protested, holding them up so her mother could see them. "They are full of holes!" "They are supposed to be," Mom said. "Now, get them on. You're going to be late for school." "I don't want to wear them!" Jodi screamed as she threw her new pair of jeans into a heap on her bedroom floor. "It was nice of Aunt Krissy to buy those jeans for me," said Jodi to herself. "But she sure doesn't have much taste. Imagine buying a pair of jeans that have holes in them already!" Hide and Seek

HIDE AND SEEK written by Debbie Williamson “Goodbye Heather and Kurt,” called Mother from the staircase. “We’ll be back in about an hour.” “Okay Mom,” said Heather. “I’ll see you when you get back.” The door closed with a bang. “Oh good,” said Kurt, Heather’s older brother. “They’re gone! Now we can play!” “What are we going to play?” asked Heather. “Let’s play hide and seek,” said Kurt. “Okay, but I get to hide first,” said Heather. “You’re such a baby,” said Kurt. “I am not!” screamed Heather. “All right,” said Kurt, reluctantly. “You can hide first.” Kurt went into the corner of Heather’s bedroom and started counting, rather quickly, to ten. Heather raced to the basement as fast as she could. She crawled into a new hiding spot that she had found the other day. “Nine, ten,” counted Kurt. “Ready or not, … Read entire article »

Jenny’s Pet Dinosaur

JENNY'S PET DINOSAUR written by Debbie Williamson Two years ago, my daughter Jenny, came home from school. She told me that she had a dinosaur in her backpack, and if I were to go near it, it would bite. "A dinosaur!" I exclaimed. "Jenny, for goodness sake. What are you doing with a dinosaur in your backpack?" I wasn't worried about the dinosaur biting me. That was the least of my worries. I was more concerned about the soaring grocery bill. "Jenny," I said as calmly as I could. "What kind of dinosaur do you have?" "It's a Tyrannosaurus Rex," said Jenny. "Oh," was all that I could say. I had been afraid that it was a Tyrannosaurus Rex. It could only have happened in my house. "They eat meat, don't they?" I asked, already knowing the answer to … Read entire article »

Peppermint

PEPPERMINT written by Debbie Williamson Once upon a very long time ago, a man lived in the city with his wife. His name was Mr. Brown and he owned a little candy shop that he ran from his home. Mrs. Brown was expecting a baby any day, now. "Hurry Ethel," said Mr. Brown. "Come quick!" "What is it dear?" asked Ethel, as she slowly and carefully made her way downstairs. "I've discovered a new flavour for my candy," said Mr. Brown, excitedly. "Try this." Mr. Brown handed his wife a spoon that contained a sample of the new flavour. "Um!" exclaimed Ethel. "This is very good. What is it?" "It's peppermint," said Mr. Brown. "Peppermint," said Ethel. "I've never heard of it before." "Me either," said Mr. Brown. "Until the other day. Puggles

PUGGLES written by Debbie Williamson Six year old Barbara came home from school, rushed up to her bedroom and threw her backpack down on her bed. Immediately, she took out her homework. She went over to her desk and sat down. She pulled out her homework and completed it quickly, but made sure that she made no mistakes. She knew that her mother would be in to see it soon. "Imagine that," thought Barbara's favourite teddy bear, Puggles to himself. "Ever since she got that new computer for Christmas, she never plays with me anymore. She doesn't even say hello to me, either!" "Well, hello," said Barbara's mother, walking into her bedroom. "How's the homework coming?" "It's all done," said Barbara, proudly. "Here, take a look." Barbara's mother took the notebook from her daughter and looked … Read entire article »

Story 125 – A Clown Without a Circus

A CLOWN WITHOUT A CIRCUS written by Debbie Williamson “Billy-Bob,” said Joey, stopping to chat with his friend. “What’s the matter? You look so sad.” Billy-Bob sat on a park bench, with a sad-looking face. “I am sad, Joey,” said Billy-Bob. “I need a circus.” “A circus!” exclaimed Joey. “What for?” “Well,” said Billy-Bob. “How can I be a clown, if I don’t have a circus?” “Gee,” said Joey. “I don’t know. I never thought of that.” “Well,” said Billy-Bob. “How can you be the strongest man in the world if you don’t have a circus?” “I guess you’re right,” said Joey, as he sat down on the bench beside Billy-Bob. “Billy-Bob,” said Joey, a few moments later. “What are we going to do?” “I haven’t heard a word about the circus coming to town this year,” said Billy-Bob. “Have you?” “No,” … Read entire article »
