Christmas Snow

CHRISTMAS SNOW written by Debbie Williamson "Racum!" Mrs. Raccoon called. "Come here quick!" Racum came running as quickly as he could. It sounded like his Mother was very excited about something, only he could not figure out what that something was. "Look," said Mrs. Raccoon, pointing out the kitchen window. "Christmas snow." Racum had heard his Mother speak of Christmas snow before but he had never actually seen it. Mother saw lots of Christmas snow in her younger years but has not seen it for a very long time. The snow Racum was looking at was definitely different than any other snow that he had ever seen. The flakes were very big and they all came down without touching one another. It was a spectacular sight to see. "Come on Racum," said Mother, handing his boots and … Read entire article »

Friendship

FRIENDSHIP written by Debbie Williamson Hi! My name is Racum Raccoon. I live in the Big Dark Forest with my Mom and Dad. Today, I am very excited. I was invited to a birthday party in Mountain Grove, Ontario. It is Jennifer Leigh Hanna's birthday. She is seven years old, now. Jennifer is my best friend. I am going to Bear's house first. He is going to come to the party with me. "Hello Bear," I said when I knocked on his door. "Are you ready?" "Ready for what?" asked Bear. "Today is Jennifer's birthday party," I told him. "We have to go to her house." "Oh no!" exclaimed Bear. "I forgot all about it. I don't even have a gift for her." Bear was very upset. He loved birthday parties very much and he did not want to … Read entire article »

Harold the Snowman

HAROLD THE SNOWMAN written by Debbie Williamson It was a very cold, but sunny winter day in the Big Dark Forest. Racum Raccoon and Mad Dog Wolf were playing in the schoolyard. It was recess time. "What do you want to do now?" asked Mad Dog Wolf. "I don't know," said Racum. "Why don't we build a snowman?" "A snowman," said Mad Dog. "I don't know how to build one." "You've never built a snowman before," said Racum. "No," said Mad Dog. "Well," said Racum. "You don't know what you're missing." "Let's build one, then" said Mad Dog. Racum took a big handful of snow and started packing it into a snowball. Mad Dog did the same thing. "You know," said Mad Dog. "This is fun." "Yes," said Racum. "I once heard about a snowman who came to life." "Imagine," said Mad Dog. … Read entire article »

I Promise

I PROMISE written by Debbie Williamson Racum Raccoon was standing outside the School of the Big Dark Forest, when he saw Mad Dog Wolf walking toward him. "Mad Dog," said Racum, noticing that his friend wasn't going to stop. "Wait up!" Racum ran down the roadway as quickly as he could to catch up to Mad Dog. "What's wrong?" Racum asked, noticing that Mad Dog was very upset. "Do you promise not to laugh at me?" asked Mad Dog, close to tears. "Of course I promise," said Racum, seriously. "I failed my Math test today," said Mad Dog. "I am so sorry," said Racum. "You didn't laugh," said Mad Dog. "I promised you that I wouldn't," said Racum. "I always keep my promises." "Well, Sly Fox said that he would keep his promise," said Mad Dog. "He laughed after I told him … Read entire article »

Mad Dog’s Christmas

THE TALE OF MAD DOG'S CHRISTMAS written by Debbie Williamson Mad Dog had a good Christmas after all, thanks to his good friend, Racum Raccoon.   Christmas Eve was falling over the Big Dark Forest. It was so peaceful and quiet. The peacefulness was enough to put everyone into the Christmas spirit, no matter how big, bad and mean they were. Mad Dog, the wolf, was sitting all alone in his dingy old den. All he had in his den was a bed, table and a little lamp. He had no room for anything else. His den was too small. Mad Dog sat on his bed, singing Christmas carols out of a school book that he had stolen the previous day from Racum Raccoon. Mad Dog had tears in his eyes as he sang. "Here it is … Read entire article »

Racum Almost Missed Christmas

RACUM ALMOST MISSED CHRISTMAS written by Debbie Williamson Racum went out to get some kindling and it turned very cold. He almost missed Christmas.         Once upon a time there was a little raccoon.  His name was Racum.  Racum was just an ordinary raccoon, who loved to play with his friends and eat good food like chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies. He, like all his other raccoon friends, loved Christmas. He loved to receive presents and he loved to give presents, especially to his Mother and Father.      Racum, however, almost slept through Christmas one year. That was a year that he would never forget. This was how the tale went:       One year, I believe it was the year 1985, it turned very cold, very fast. Racum had been gathering some kindling out … Read entire article »

He loves going to school. He likes his friends and all of his teachers.   "Racum," said Mother Raccoon, when he came into the kitchen all dressed up in his brand new school clothes. "There is a change of plans today."   "What change of plans?" asked Racum. "I thought today was the first day of school."   Racum stood in the middle of the kitchen floor, scratching his head. He was very confused.   "Grandpa is very ill," said Mother. "We are going to go visit him today."   "Oh dear," said Racum, a tear coming to his eyes. "Poor Grandpa."   "Yes," said Mother. Racum Raccoon’s First Day of School

RACUM RACCOON'S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL written by Debbie Williamson "Racum dear," said Mrs. Raccoon.  "What would you like for breakfast this morning?" "I'm not hungry, Mom," said Racum. "Not hungry," said Mr. Raccoon, laying down the morning paper.  "That's a switch!" "Are you not feeling well?" asked Mrs. Raccoon. "No," said Racum.  "I'm not.  I've got a sore tummy!" "Oh dear," said Mrs. Raccoon.  "Racum, this is your first day of school.  You can't be sick today!" Mrs. Raccoon felt Racum's forehead. "At least he doesn't have a temperature," said Mrs. Raccoon, relieved.  "I know what's wrong," Mr. Raccoon whispered to his wife.  "He's got the first day of school jitters." "Right," said Mrs. Raccoon.  "That would explain everything." "Look Racum," said Mr. Raccoon.  "You'd better eat up.  You're going to have a very busy day today." Racum’s Best Christmas

RACUM'S BEST CHRISTMAS written by Debbie Williamson It was mid-December in the Big Dark Forest. The animals in the forest were scurrying around trying to get the forest decorated for Christmas. "Father," said Racum Raccoon, noticing his Father walking through the forest. "Wait up!" Racum Raccoon had to take double big footsteps to catch up to his father. When he saw the look on his father's face, he immediately knew that there was something wrong. "What is it Father?" asked Racum. "What is wrong?" "The plant is laying off half of its employees," said Mr. Raccoon. "I might be losing my job." "Oh dear," said Racum. "That is bad news." "Yes," said Mr. Raccoon, noticing Racum carrying a bag of Christmas decorations under his arm. "It is bad news. If I lose my job, there won't be any … Read entire article »
