Story 113 – Thanksgiving

THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson ”Hey Spot,” said Fawn, one autumn morning. ”When is Thanksgiving?” ”I’m not sure,” said Spot. “It must be soon, though. I will look on the calendar.” Spot went into her stall and looked at the calendar. ”It’s this coming weekend,” said Spot. ”Oh,” said Fawn. ”Do you think Grampy is going to come?” ”Probably,” said Spot. ”Thanksgiving was Nanny’s favourite holiday,” said Fawn. “I miss her a lot.” “I know you do,” said Spot. ”I miss her too.” Fawn and Spot waited with anticipation to see if Grampy was going to come for Thanksgiving. ”Is that him?” asked Fawn, whenever they saw a car go by. ”Is that Grampy?” ”No Fawn,” said Spot. ”That wasn’t Grampy.” Finally, Fawn saw Grampy pull into the driveway in his new car. ”He’s here!” exclaimed Fawn excitedly. ”Grampy’s here!” Soon after that Uncle Bobby, … Read entire article »

Story 197 – Turkey for Thanksgiving

TURKEY FOR THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson Troll Mother was in the kitchen preparing dinner for her family, when Troll Daddy came home from work. “What is that you are cooking?” asked Troll Daddy, taking his boots off. “Spaghetti,” said Troll Mother. “I see,” said Troll Daddy, with a twinkle in his eye. “Spaghetti again, eh.” “Yes,” laughed Troll Mother. “We are having spaghetti again. It is the cheapest meal to cook and the kids love it.” “I sure wish that we could have something different,” said Troll Daddy, sitting down at the kitchen table. “It is really too bad that we can’t afford to have a turkey this year for Thanksgiving,” said Troll Mother sadly. “Hold on a minute,” said Troll Daddy. “We are going to have turkey this year for Thanksgiving. This is for sure! There is … Read entire article »

Story 198 – The Meaning of Thanksgiving

THE MEANING OF THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson “Spot,” said Fawn, tripping over his toys in the hallway. “Come on, I smell turkey.” “Fawn,” said Spot. “It is only 2:00 pm. The turkey isn’t going to be ready for another couple of hours. Besides, you have to wait for Grampy to get here.” “Oh,” said Fawn, with disappointment in his words. “I wanted to eat turkey.” “Thanksgiving means a lot more than just turkey,” said Spot. “You are to be thankful for what we have.” “I am thankful,” said Fawn. “I’m thankful that I will be able to eat turkey this afternoon.” “Fawn!” exclaimed Spot. Just then the doorbell rang. “You are saved by the doorbell,” said Spot. Fawn just smiled at Spot. He was grateful that the doorbell rang because he didn’t want to get a lecture and he … Read entire article »

Story 235 – Thanksgiving

POOR MOUNTAIN FAMILY’S THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson “Wow!” exclaimed Poor Mountain Father, walking into the kitchen of his log cabin. “Something smells really good.” “Yes,” said Poor Mountain Sister, who was helping Poor Mountain Mother peel potatoes. “I can’t wait for that turkey to finish cooking.” “Me either,” said Poor Mountain Mother, who had been standing over the hot oven the whole day long. “The smell of it is driving me crazy.” “You know,” said Poor Mountain Brother. “If a stranger came into our cabin right now, they would never know that we were so poor?” “What do you mean?” asked Poor Mountain Mother. “Well,” said Poor Mountain Brother. “Just look around you, Poor Mountain Mother. We have everything here that a normal family has on Thanksgiving. We have a turkey in the oven and we … Read entire article »

AMERICAN THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson “I’m going into town,” said Fawn. “How come?” said Spot. “Well,” said Fawn. “I’m going to do some grocery shopping.” “You are going grocery shopping,” laughed Spot. “Yes,” said Fawn. “There are a few things I want to get for tomorrow.” “What is so special about tomorrow?” asked Spot. “Tomorrow is the American Thanksgiving holiday,” said Fawn. “So, I thought we could have a Thanksgiving dinner, too.” “Fawn,” said Spot, sternly. “What country do we live in?” “Canada,” said Fawn. “When is our Thanksgiving holiday?” asked Spot. “October,” said Fawn. “Well, now that we have that straight,” said Spot. “Can you please tell me why you want to have Thanksgiving in November?” “I don’t know,” said Fawn. “Is there anything wrong with wanting to have a turkey dinner?” “Oh wait a minute,” said Spot. “You are not interested in … Read entire article »

Story 517 – Thanksgiving

THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson “I am so depressed,” said Fawn. “Why?” asked Spot. “Today is Thanksgiving. We are having turkey and pumpkin pie.” “That is why I am depressed,” said Fawn. “Not about the turkey and the pumpkin pie but about the fact that it is Thanksgiving.” “I understand,” said Spot, knowing that Fawn was actually depressed about the family situation and not the actual holiday itself. “You know that Grampy would come if he could. However, BC is a long way from Ontario.” “Yes,” said Fawn. “It’s not just Grampy. It is the fact that Nanny, Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma are not here anymore either.” “Well,” said Spot. “Just because they are not here physically, doesn’t mean they can’t be here spiritually.” “Umm, I guess,” said Fawn. “It isn’t the same though. I mean we can’t talk … Read entire article »

TRAVELLIN' RICK COMES HOME FOR THANKSGIVING written by Debbie Williamson The phone was ringing just as Travellin' Rick sat down to eat his dinner. He was going to just let it ring but something told him to answer it. "Hello son," said an older voice, when he picked up the phone. "Mother!" exclaimed Travellin' Rick. "What a surprise!" Travellin' Rick has been so busy that he hadn't had a chance to call his Mother in a long while. "I just wanted to ask if you had any plans for Thanksgiving," said Mother. "I don't," said Travellin' Rick. "Would you like to spend Thanksgiving with me?" asked Mother. "Yes," said Travellin' Rick. "That would be nice. "It has been awhile since I have been home."
