A Visit to the Arctic

A VISIT TO THE ARCTIC written by Debbie Williamson "Hi there boys and girls! I sure hope you are nice and warm under all those blankets. I'm not. I'm way up here in the Arctic. It's very cold up here!" Travellin' Rick had arrived in the Arctic about a month before. He was staying with an Inuit family. There were four members of this particular family, Iza, an 80 year old grandmother, George, the father, Sarah, the mother and Sally, the two month old infant. Because Travellin' Rick was a strong man, he was helping George throughout his stay. George was glad to have an extra hand around. The Arctic can be a very difficult and lonely place to live. The Arctic is situated right at the very top of our planet. Hardly any plants … Read entire article »

Autumn Leaves

AUTUMN LEAVES written by Debbie Williamson Hey kids, please join me on my latest adventure. I want to see some autumn leaves. Travellin' Rick grabbed his camera and a picnic lunch and headed out in his car. He headed north and travelled up from Kingston, Ontario to Sharbot Lake, Ontario which was about 45 minutes away. Once in Sharbot Lake, Travellin' Rick travelled north on Highway 509. There were a lot of nice little towns in that area, Snow Road, Ardoch, Ompah just to name a few. It was a warm autumn day. As soon as Travellin' Rick got onto Highway 509 he noticed the beautiful autumn colours. The trees were a bright red, orange and brown colour. He was so happy he had taken this drive. Travellin' Rick was not alone on this adventure. … Read entire article »

Christmas Safety

CHRISTMAS SAFETY written by Debbie Williamson I was recently visiting with Travellin' Rick. Travellin' Rick is a character from the Bed Tyme Tales website. Travellin' Rick has visited Santa Claus several times and I thought he was the perfect one to get some Christmas safety tips. "Hi Safety Kid," said Travellin' Rick as I stepped off the airplane in British Columbia, Canada. "It sure is nice to meet you." "You too," I said, shaking Travellin' Rick's outstretched hand. "I've been looking forward to this visit. I can't wait to see Santa Claus!" "Yes," said Travellin' Rick. "Santa Claus is quite a character." From the airport Travellin' Rick and I hopped on a small aircraft and flew to Alaska and then from there we took a pack of sled dogs and a young Inuit guide and started … Read entire article »

Christmas Sleigh

CHRISTMAS SLEIGH written by Debbie Williamson Travellin' Rick was walking along the woods near his house, when he saw something shiny sticking out from behind a huge tree. He went over to investigate it and was shocked when he saw a sleigh just sitting there. "That is strange," said Travellin' Rick, taking a good look at the sleigh. "And it looks rather familiar too." Travellin' Rick went around to the front of the sleigh and saw some harnesses at the front of it. He counted the harnesses. "Hmmmm," said Travellin' Rick. "Eight harnesses. I know of someone who owns a sleigh that would need eight harnesses. I wonder if this sleigh belongs to Santa Claus." Travellin' Rick took out his cell phone and called Santa Claus. "Gee Travellin' Rick," said Santa Claus, when he recognized the voice … Read entire article »

Santa’s Castle

SANTA'S CASTLE written by Debbie Williamson Hi there!  I am here to share my latest adventure with you, and what an adventure it was! I arrived at the airport in the North Pole, late one evening.  Snow was everywhere.  Once I was firmly on the ground, I hired a dog team from an Inuit fellow.  The dog team was supposed to take me to Santa's castle, but they kept getting lost.  After many unsuccessful attempts, I traded the team to an Inuit family that I had met.  I took my belongings from the sled and went on my own. I walked around for what seemed like days.  I was tired, cold and hungry.  The weight of my heavy furs began to get to me.  However, because I was all the way out in the … Read entire article »

Story 137 – Family Reunion

FAMILY REUNION written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your summer holidays. I know I sure am. The weather has been great and I’ve just been invited to a huge picnic, a family reunion picnic. There are going to be over one hundred members of my family there. My family members are all spread out over Canada and a few of them are living in the United States, too. We live so far apart that we don’t get to see each other very much. Sometimes that is a good thing but sometimes it’s not. The picnic is going to be held at Algonquin Park which is located in northern Ontario and is renowned for it’s wildlife and it’s beauty. Besides, it is very close to my grandparents cottage and since … Read entire article »

Story 152 – Visits New Mexico

TRAVELLIN’ RICK VISITS NEW MEXICO written by Debbie Williamson Well kids, it’s sure nice to be here with you all again. I hope you all have had an enjoyable summer. I know that I sure did. I visited with a friend of mine in the state of New Mexico. New Mexico is located west of Texas, north of Mexico, east of Arizona and south of Colorado. The capital city of New Mexico is Santa Fe. New Mexico is a desert area. Most of the population in New Mexico are Spanish speaking people and Native Americans. Cattle and sheep ranches can be found throughout the state. I visited one such cattle ranch just outside of Albuquerque. The ranch was owned by my friend, Pueblo and his family. They own thousands of acres of land and they … Read entire article »

TRAVELLIN’ RICK BUYS A NEW COMPUTER written by Debbie Williamson “Hi there, boys and girls! I’m going to the city today. I have decided that I am going to buy a new computer. Please come with me!” Travellin’ Rick drove to the city. Once there, he went into the biggest computer store that he could find. “So, what exactly are you looking for in a computer?” asked the salesclerk. “I really don’t know,” said Travellin’ Rick. “I’ve never owned a computer before.” “Are you going to use the computer for business or entertainment?” asked the salesclerk. “Probably a little of both,” said Travellin’ Rick. “Then, I would recommend you get a CD-ROM,” said the salesclerk. “A CD-ROM!” exclaimed Travellin’ Rick. “What is that?” “A CD-ROM stands for Compact Disc-Read Only Memory,” explained the salesclerk. “A CD-ROM uses a compact disc … Read entire article »
