TURKEY FOR THANKSGIVING
Troll Mother was in the kitchen preparing
dinner for her family, when Troll Daddy came home from work.
“What is that you are cooking?” asked Troll Daddy, taking his boots off.
“Spaghetti,” said Troll Mother.
“I see,” said Troll Daddy, with a twinkle in his eye. “Spaghetti again, eh.”
“Yes,” laughed Troll Mother. “We are having spaghetti again. It is the cheapest
meal to cook and the kids love it.”
“I sure wish that we could have something different,” said Troll Daddy, sitting
down and the kitchen table.
“It is really too bad that we can’t afford to have a turkey this year for
Thanksgiving,” said Troll Mother sadly.
“Hold on a minute,” said Troll Daddy. “We are going to have turkey this year for
Thanksgiving. This is for sure! There is no way that we are going to eat
spaghetti for Thanksgiving. No matter how broke we are, I’m sure we can afford
to treat ourselves just once. I mean, I am working now.”
Troll Daddy just started working about a month ago at the Troll Pulp and Paper
Mill. He had been laid-off from his job at the Troll Town Forest six months
prior to that. Money had been tight in the Troll Family residence for the last
little bit as they tried to get their bills caught up.
“Oh could we?” asked Troll Mother. “The kids would just love that.”
“Okay,” said Troll Daddy. “Then turkey it is.”
Later that evening, Troll Mother and Troll Daddy were in the living room,
reading the evening newspaper, when they heard a knock at the door. Troll Daddy
got up to answer the door and was surprised when he saw his boss, Troll
Stephenson.
“Hello Troll Stephenson,” said Troll Daddy, shaking his boss’ outstretched hand.
“It is so nice of you to drop by. Won’t you come in?”
“Listen,” said Troll Stephenson. “I don’t have long. I have a meeting this
evening but I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of your hard-work this past
month, bringing our plant around.”
“Well, thank you,” Troll Daddy blushed. “It was really nothing. All I did was do
my job.”
“It is for that reason alone that I wanted you and your family to have this,”
said Troll Stephenson, handing Troll Daddy a big brown paper bag. “Enjoy!”
“Oh my!” exclaimed Troll Daddy to Troll Mother after Troll Stephenson had left.
“Look what is in the bag!”
“Looks like we are having turkey for Thanksgiving this year!” exclaimed Troll
Mother, happily.
Troll Stephenson had given Troll Daddy a 20 pound frozen turkey.
“Turkey for Thanksgiving,” sang Troll Daddy, happily, grabbing Troll Mother’s
hand and dancing around the room!”
