FAWN AND
SQUEAKY
"Fawn," said Spot. "Come here quick!"
Fawn dropped the book he was reading and came running.
"Spot," said Fawn, running through the barn. "Where are you?"
"I'm in the kitchen," said Spot. "Come quick!"
Fawn ran into the kitchen and saw Spot standing on a chair in the middle of the
kitchen floor. Then he saw why she was doing this. A little mouse ran across the
kitchen floor.
"Oh Squeaky!" exclaimed Fawn, trying to catch his little friend. "What are you
doing out of your cage?"
"Squeaky!" screamed Spot. "You know this mouse."
"Yes," said Fawn. "Squeaky is my friend. He stays in a cage in my room."
Fawn saw Squeaky sitting in the corner of the room. He went over to him and
picked him up. Squeaky rubbed his little nose against Fawn's cheek.
Spot got down off the chair, once she saw that Squeaky was no danger to her. She
went over to Fawn and gave Squeaky a little pet behind his ears.
"I guess Squeaky is kind of cute," said Spot.
"Yes," said Fawn. "He is. That is why we get along so good cause he takes after
me."
"Oh boy," said Spot. "You've got Squeaky thinking just like you. That could be
trouble."
Fawn took Squeaky into his room and put Squeaky back in his cage.
"You'd better be careful with him," said Spot, suddenly concerned about Squeaky.
"Mr. Hansen has all kinds of mouse traps laid throughout the barn."
"Yeah," said Fawn. "I know. Me and Squeaky already found one of them. That is
how I found Squeaky. He had his tail stuck in the trap."
"Oh dear," said Spot.
"So me and Squeaky have pretty much found all the mouse traps and have set them
off so that Squeaky doesn't get hurt," said Fawn.
"Well," said Spot, watching Fawn almost step backward right onto a mouse trap.
"Looks like you missed one."
