A DAY AT THE RANCH
Mornings start early on the ranch. It is rise
and shine and out of bed at 5:00 am to be at the ranch for 6:00 am. The first
thing that needs to be done is to feed and water all of the animals.
The horses are fed first. They are fed hay and grain and are given fresh water.
There are a couple of colts that have been born in the past few weeks. They are
given a special scratch and pet. They love all the attention they can get.
In one stall is a little calf, mooing like crazy. He is half starved and needs
to be fed by bottle. He doesn't stop mooing until he gets what he wants and when
he does get it, he gulps it down in like two seconds and then wants more. He
starts mooing again. He now has gotten all the attention of everyone on the
ranch and loves every minute of it. However, the rest of the cows have to be fed
as well and he gets very upset when he is left alone, once more.
Llama's come down from the far field to see what all the commotion is about. Of
course, they want in on the action when they see that food is available.
The next thing that needs to be done is to feed all the little kittens that, by
this time, are all around your feet. You have to be careful not to step on them
because they are so small. They will definitely let you know when you get too
close. A nice bowl of fresh cow milk and they will leave you alone for the time
being.
About two hours later, all the animals on the ranch have been fed and it is
finally time for the farmer to sit down and have his breakfast. A nice big plate
of bacon and eggs and a big glass of freshly squeezed juice is what the farmer
loves for his breakfast.
Is that the end of the farmer's day? Are you kidding? A farmer's work is never
done. After breakfast it is out on the field to work at several different tasks
like irrigation, fencing or haying.
