TRAVELLIN' RICK MEETS LUCKY LEPRECHAUN Travellin' Rick was sitting in the kitchen of his apartment looking at the calendar. He saw that next week was St. Patrick's Day.
"I know what I want to do," said Travellin' Rick to himself. "I want to meet a leprechaun for St. Patrick's Day."
Travellin' Rick did some research on the internet about leprechauns. Most websites talked about leprechauns being a legend or myth. However, Travellin' Rick really believed that leprechaun's existed.
"If there are any leprechaun's in Canada," he said. "I'm going to find one."
Travellin' Rick sat down and thought about where a leprechaun would hang out. He thought about it long and hard and after about two hours of sitting and thinking, he knew exactly where he was going to find a leprechaun.
The morning before St. Patrick's Day, Travellin' Rick began his adventure. He decided that he would climb that tallest mountain in the area and just sit there and wait, silently. He was pretty sure that he was going to see a leprechaun.
Travellin' Rick was bundled up really good because the top of any mountain is pretty chilly. However, he couldn't help but shiver, he was that cold. Travellin' Rick needed to get warm somehow but he knew that if he built a fire, it would probably scare away the leprechaun.
It was a little eerie for Travellin' Rick, being on the top of a very tall mountain. It was a clear night and he could see every star twinkling in the sky. The moon also shone brightly. It just so happened that it was a full moon too.
A few hours later, Travellin' Rick could hear some rustling in the trees. He stayed absolutely still, not moving a muscle. He didn't even blink his eyes. He knew that any movement on his part would scare the leprechaun away and he didn't want that to happen.
Soon, he could see something twinkling in behind that trees. The object came closer and then for some reason, it disappeared. Then a few minutes later, it reappeared, but in a different location.
The object came closer and closer to where Travellin' Rick was sitting. Goose bumps went up Travellin' Rick's spine. He knew what he was looking at and he didn't want to scare it away. Travellin' Rick knew he had found the leprechaun.
Travellin' Rick sat in amazement and watched the leprechaun. It was like he was doing some kind of dance. The leprechaun went in among the trees and then finally came out to the clearing about ten feet from where Travellin' Rick was sitting.
Travellin' Rick just could not contain his excitement any longer. He had to let the leprechaun know he was there. Slowly, Travellin' Rick stood up and walked toward the leprechaun. He saw a pool of light in the clearing from the moon. The leprechaun was dancing. He was dancing in the pool of light.
"Wow!" exclaimed Travellin' Rick.
Travellin' Rick didn't mean to say anything, but he was so excited that he just couldn't help it. He was witnessing something that he was pretty sure not a whole lot of other people had ever seen.
The leprechaun stopped dancing immediately upon hearing what Travellin' Rick had said.
"Who is there?" asked the leprechaun angrily, coming closer to where Travellin' Rick was.
"It is me," said Travellin' Rick. "My name is Travellin' Rick."
"Well are you trying to spy on me to find out where my pot of gold is?" asked the leprechaun.
"Actually," said Travellin' Rick. "The pot of gold was not what I was looking for."
"Then it must be the three wishes," said the leprechaun.
"No," said Travellin' Rick. "I really only wanted to meet a real live leprechaun."
"Is that all you wanted?" asked the leprechaun. "Everyone else always wants something more than that."
"No," said Travellin' Rick. "I just really wanted to meet you."
"Well," said the leprechaun. "It is really nice to meet you. My name is Lucky Leprechaun."
"It is a pleasure to meet you," said Travellin' Rick, shaking Lucky's hand.
"Well," said Lucky. "Now that you've met me, you can leave."
"So, I can't like get to know you a little better," said Travellin' Rick. "I've go many questions I'd like to ask you? Please don't make me go already?"
"Well see," said Lucky Leprechaun. "I don't want you to leave. It is just that this is St. Patrick's Day. I'm on my way down to the village. There is a huge leprechaun party there tonight."
"You mean there are more leprechauns here?" asked Travellin' Rick, just utterly amazed.
"Absolutely," said Lucky. "There are probably about a thousand of us all together. Hey, look, you seem like a real nice guy. Not one to cause any trouble. Why don't you come to the St. Patrick's Day party with us? It will be a night you will never remember."
"Don't you mean a night that I'll never forget?" asked Travellin' Rick, a little confused.
Lucky didn't answer Travellin' Rick's question and probably with good reason. Once Travellin' Rick and Lucky were with the other leprechauns, Lucky gave Travellin' Rick a glass of some weird green concoction and the next thing Travellin' Rick remembered was that he was sound asleep in his own bed. Lucky was absolutely right because Travellin' Rick never remembered that night with the leprechaun's at all.
