SANTA IS CONFUSED
One spring day, it turned very cold. In fact,
it turned so cold that it snowed. Soon, snow covered the green grass and the new
buds that were forming on the trees.
Santa Claus was in his castle, way up in the North Pole. Now, if you thought
that it was cold down here where we are, then you could imagine how could it was
in the North Pole! It was freezing!
Santa got up from his bed and looked out the window.
"My, look at that!" exclaimed Santa Claus. "It is snowing out! It must be
Christmas, again! I'd better get the elves working on those toys, and fast. We
haven't much time to waste!"
Santa Claus got dressed in his red suit and he went downstairs. He happened to
glance at his calendar on the way into the kitchen. The calendar said that it
was the month of April.
"That can't be right," said Santa, ripping off the pages of the calendar, until
he got to the month of December. "There, that's better!"
Mark Elf came into the kitchen.
"Hi Santa," said Mark. "Have you seen the snow?"
"Yes," said Santa. "How are things in the workshop?"
"It's very slow," said Mark. "Why are you asking? We still have a few months
until Christmas."
"Oh no we don't," said Santa. "We only have a few hours. I want you to tell all
the other elves that they had better get cracking. We have a very busy day ahead
of us."
"Yes," said Mark.
Mark left the kitchen and was on his way into the workshop. He happened to
glance at the calendar that hung on the wall.
"Oh my!" exclaimed Mark. "Santa is right, it is December!"
Mark told the other elves that they had better get busy.
"It's only April," said Harry Elf. "We have lots of time before Christmas!"
"No we don't," said Mark. "Come and look at this."
All the elves in the workshop took a look at the calendar.
"Time sure flies," said Timmy Elf. "It feels as if we had just gotten over one
Christmas. Well, we had better get to work!"
All that day, the elves in Santa's workshop worked very hard. By midnight, the
sleigh was all ready to go.
Santa Claus and his reindeer, quickly flew into the sky. At the first house he
stopped at, he found something that was very peculiar. He found Peter Cottontail
delivering chocolate Easter bunny's.
"Hey Peter!" exclaimed Santa. "What are you doing here?"
"Why it's Easter," said Peter. "What are you doing here?"
"Why it's Christmas," said Santa.
"Either I'm late," said Peter. "Or you are early."
"Something very strange is going on here," said Santa. "It can't be Easter and
Christmas all at the same time."
"No," said Peter. "It can't."
Santa started to unload his big bag of toys.
"That's funny," said Santa. "Where are the stockings?"
"What stockings?" asked Peter.
"The children's Christmas stockings," said Santa. "I don't see any. Hey, where
are all the Christmas decorations and the Christmas tree?"
"I think that you are very confused," said Peter. "You see, Santa, it is
Easter."
"It is!" exclaimed Santa.
"Yes, it is," said Peter.
Peter found a calendar hanging up on the wall. "See, Santa. This is only the
month of April."
Santa studied the calendar very carefully.
"I guess you're right," said Santa, foolishly.
Santa loaded his sleigh back up and headed it back to the North Pole.
The next morning, Mark Elf, came into the kitchen again. He glanced out the
window. The sun was shining bright and he could see patches of green grass. He
glanced at the calendar. It said that this was the month of April.
"Boy!" exclaimed Mark. "Time sure is going fast. It is April already. It feels
like a whole year has gone by in one day!"
