FAWN AND SPOT MOVE TO THE CITY
“It
sure is noisy around the farm today,” said Spot, looking out the
window of the barn.
There was a big moving truck up at the house as well as several
movers. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen were scurrying back and forth
frantically.
“Yeah,” said Fawn, sounding depressed. “It is.” “I
guess you’re not in a very good mood either,” said Spot. “No,
I’m not,” said Fawn. “I’m going to miss this barn.” “Me
too,” said Spot. “At least we will still be together. I think we’ll
be alright.”
“Spot, don’t be so foolish,” said Fawn. “Don’t you know what cities
are like? Cars, smog, people, noise, crime and what is taking Jenny
and Ricky so long?” asked Fawn. “We have to get on the moving
truck.”
“They’ll be here soon,” said Spot.
“What if they forget about us?” asked Fawn, with a tear rolling down
his cheek. “Oh
Fawn,” comforted Spot. “They will be here. You are just getting
yourself all upset for nothing.” “How
come we can’t stay here?” asked Fawn. “Why do we have to move?” “You
know Mr. Hansen just got that great new computer job in the city,”
said Spot. “I
know,” said Fawn. “I’m going to miss this place, though.” “I
know you will,” said Spot, comforting her friend. “I will too.” The
two cows stood looking out the barn window, watching what was going
on up at the house.
“Here’s your breakfast,” said Jenny handing Spot a handful of hay
and Fawn some fries and a can of orange pop. “I have to get back up
to house and help pack.”
“That was quick!” exclaimed Fawn after Jenny had left. “Something is
up. Where’s Ricky?”
“Fawn,” said Spot. “Stop it! You know everyone is busy today. It
takes time to pack and get things ready to move.” “It
only took me five minutes to pack,” said Fawn. “All
you had to pack up was your gold medal and a couple of pictures,”
said Spot. Fawn
went to look out the window again. “Oh,
look!” said Fawn excitedly, a few minutes later. “Cousin Robbie and
Shelby are here! They won’t let the Hansen’s leave us here!” Spot
came over to the window to take a look. “Oh
Fawn,” said Spot. “The Hansen’s are not going to leave us. They love
us too much to leave us.”
“Well, I think that they are going to leave us here,” Fawn cried. “No
they aren’t,” reassured Spot. “Now, come on and eat something.” “I’m
not hungry,” said Fawn, going back to the window.
“Well, you should eat,” said Spot, eating her hay. Fawn
was too upset to eat. He just stood there staring out the window
with a lost look on his face. “I
told you they were leaving us here,” said Fawn, about an hour later.
“What are you talking about?” asked Spot.
“Look for yourself,” said Fawn. “Robbie and Shelby are gone. They
didn’t even come and see us, and now, the trucks are pulling out of
the driveway!” Spot
went over to the window and looked out. She saw two moving trucks
pull out of the driveway and then a red pickup truck with wooden
slats on the back pulled in. “Now
it’s your turn to look,” said Spot. Fawn
looked out the window. “Oh
good,” said Fawn, happily. “They aren’t leaving us here.” “I
told you that,” said Spot.
“Come on you two,” said Mr. Hansen, with Ricky, Jenny, Robbie and
Shelby standing behind him. “It’s time to go!”
“Alright,” said Fawn. “But first I have to eat my breakfast!” |
