Benefits of Molasses

I have congenital chorea. It is a disorder that affects the nervous system.
I also have
restless leg syndrome. Needless to say that when I get stressed out, I really
get stressed out. My nervous system just goes haywire.
I work full-time in a not very stressed environment but my hours are pretty
weird. I start work at 3:00 am and finish at 11:30 am. I am usually home by
around noon and what I have been doing is getting a few hours sleep in the
afternoon, getting up around 4:00 pm or 5:00 pm and cooking dinner. Then I
usually go back to bed around 8:00 pm or 9:00 pm and get up 1:45 am to get ready
for work. I love my job and I actually like the shift but most days, I am not
getting my proper sleep.
My usual sleep
pattern is, I'll lay down and fall asleep probably an hour later, legs jerking
the whole time. Once I fall asleep I wake up within 20 minutes. I don't know why
20 minutes but it happens almost every day and of course, I can't get back to
sleep after that for another 2 or 3 hours. So, I am definitely not getting my
proper sleep.
Another problem
I have is that I have a very low tolerance to pills. I can't take anything other
than the odd advil. A half of a sleeping pill would knock me out for a few days
and any kind of muscle relaxant, forget it.
I did some
research on the internet and found that by taking a tablespoon of black strap
molasses, it is supposed to help with sleeplessness, restless leg syndrome.
anxiety attacks, joint pain, etc.
I decided that I
was going to try this out and see if it helps me. I am going to keep a running
diary about this so please bookmark this page if you wish to find out the
results of this. Now, this is in no way associated with any doctor, etc so if
you wanted to try this out, I would suggest you see your physician first.

I took one tablespoon of molasses before having my
afternoon nap today. My feet were aching a bit before I laid down and
even though I woke up at my usual 20 minute mark and then pretty much
every hour on the hour, I did manage to get a full four hours sleep
today! I do feel rested for a change. |

I took one tablespoon of molasses before
going to bed last night. I went to bed at about 9:30 pm because I
actually was rested from my nap earlier in the day. I laid awake for
about an hour but I didn't do my usual 20 minute jerking thing. I did
manage to sleep for about 2 1/2 hours. I noticed that at work today I
didn't seem as tired as I normally am. Usually by 6:00 am I am ready to
fall asleep at my desk. I also didn't have to take any advil today
either and I noticed that I was in a pretty good mood the whole day.
This is also the third day of my period, which is now pretty much gone.
It usually lasts for 5 or 6 days and is pretty heavy for the first two
days. I've been clotting quite a bit the past few months. I've noticed
that the clotting has pretty much stopped already. It is strange but I
feel the molasses is helping me out already. |

Yesterday afternoon, the temperature here
went up 39 degrees Celsius and therefore we had a wicked thunderstorm
which took place while I was trying to sleep. Needless to say, I only
got about an hours sleep yesterday afternoon. The rest of the afternoon
I experienced really bad anxiety attacks. I did sleep good last night
though. I actually had about 10 hours sleep. I do feel rested but
today am still experiencing anxiety attacks. I don't know if this is
from taking the molasses or just because of certain things going on in
my life that are really stressing me out. I am noticing positive changes
though, period completely gone after 3 days, still no clotting and I
seem to look healthier when I look in the mirror. |

The clotting has some back. I was also
getting severe anxiety attacks so I didn't take the molasses for one
day. I do not feel like I am in as much pain with my back and legs. I
have been taking the molasses everyday before eating something so today
I took one teaspoon after eating my lunch. I'm not sure if the anxiety
attacks I was getting recently are related to the molasses or not but
they did come at the same time that I started taking it. However, there
has been a lot of stress in my personal life right now too so that may
have been the reason for them. I haven't had a panic attack yet today so
we'll see. |

I stopped taking the molasses because it didn't appear to be helping me like I had read that it would. |
