MOUNTAIN SHEEP
written by Debbie Williamson
"I want to go for a drive," said Poor Mountain Mother.
"Good idea," said Poor Mountain Father.
Poor Mountain Mother and Poor Mountain Father loved to go for a drive in the mountains. There was always so much to see and so much to do in the mountains.
Poor Mountain Father went to clean up the front seat of the truck and Poor Mountain Mother made some snacks and sandwiches for them.
Poor Mountain Father drove up into the mountain roads and saw some vehicles stopped up ahead. He had to put the brakes on quickly but he had enough time to get stopped safely.
Right in the middle of the road, there was a couple of mountain sheep. They just stood there, not moving. It was actually quite a neat site to see. Mountain sheep are fairly large animals but what is really neat about them are their curled horns.
Poor Mountain Mother grabbed her camera and very carefully got out of the truck and approached the sheep. She did, however, make sure she kept her distance between herself and them. Getting butted from a mountain sheep would definitely hurt.
Poor Mountain Mother took a couple of pictures and then she got back into the truck. Poor Mountain Father and Poor Mountain Mother sat and watched the mountain sheep for several minutes before continuing on with their drive.
Three was a whole herd of mountain sheep out in the mountain that day and it looked like they were all moving from one area to the other. All the mountain sheep in that area seemed to be males. It seemed that the females were in a different part of the mountain.
Poor Mountain Father drove into a grassland park that was just a few kilometres from where they saw the mountain sheep. To their surprise, Poor Mountain Father and Poor Mountain Mother saw another herd of mountain sheep. This had seemed to be all males as well, a lot bigger than the other males and they were a lot darker in colour.
"I wonder if these guys are darker in colour because they are older, " said Poor Mountain Father. "'Or, are they darker because they are a different kind of mountain sheep."
"I really don't know, "said Poor Mountain Mother. "I would think they are possibly just older."
"That makes sense, "said Poor Mountain Lather.
"It sure is nice to see the mountain sheep again," said Poor Mountain Mother. "We actually haven't seen them in a white."
Poor Mountain Mother and Poor Mountain Father enjoyed their drive very much and they vowed to each other that they would have to drive again, very soon.
