Story 113 – Thanksgiving

THANKSGIVING

”Hey Spot,” said Fawn, one autumn morning. ”When is Thanksgiving?”

”I’m not sure,” said Spot. “It must be soon, though. I will look on the calendar.”

Spot went into her stall and looked at the calendar.

”It’s this coming weekend,” said Spot.

”Oh,” said Fawn. ”Do you think Grampy is going to come?”

”Probably,” said Spot.

”Thanksgiving was Nanny’s favourite holiday,” said Fawn. “I miss her a lot.”

“I know you do,” said Spot. ”I miss her too.”

Fawn and Spot waited with anticipation to see if Grampy was going to come for Thanksgiving.

”Is that him?” asked Fawn, whenever they saw a car go by. ”Is that Grampy?”

”No Fawn,” said Spot. ”That wasn’t Grampy.”

Finally, Fawn saw Grampy pull into the driveway in his new car.

”He’s here!” exclaimed Fawn excitedly. ”Grampy’s here!”

Soon after that Uncle Bobby, Auntie Terry, Cousins Robbie and Shelby and Auntie Judy and Cousins April, Amanda and Amber all pulled into the driveway.

“Looks like we are going to have Thanksgiving,” said Fawn, happily.

”Yes,” said Spot. ”It sure looks that way!”

Fawn and Spot went outside to see everyone. They saw all kinds of food going into the house. Grampy was carrying a turkey. Aunt Terry had some homemade pies. Auntie Judy brought a vegetable tray.

”It smells so good,” said Fawn.

”Why thank you,” said Grampy.

Grampy went into the house and as soon as he put the food down, he came back outside.

”Here you go, Fawn,” said Grampy, handing Fawn a chocolate bar. “I didn’t forget!”

“Thank you, Grampy,” said Fawn, happily. “I was wondering if you would remember.”

“I would never forget you,” said Grampy.

“And, Spot,” said Grampy, handing Spot some fresh hay. “Here’s something for you.”

“Thank you, Grampy,” said Spot.

Thanksgiving was a little sad without Nanny this year but it was a good Thanksgiving considering.
