"Good night, Timmy," said Mommy, as she bent over and gave him a kiss and hug.
"Good night, Mommy," said Timmy. "Aren't you forgetting something?"
Mother looked blank for a moment.
"Oh yes," she finally said. "Don't let the bed bugs bite!"
"Whew!" exclaimed Timmy as he heard all the bed bugs scurry back to their hiding place. "Mommy almost forgot to say it."
Bed bugs are nasty creatures with terrible bites. Their favourite hiding place is under a bed. If a bed bug is told not to bite, they will not bite.
If the day came around that the bed bugs weren't told not to bite, well, we all know what would happen.
Timmy had a good night's sleep that night. The next night, Timmy's parents had hired a babysitter. They had to go to a dance that was being held in Timmy's father's honour.
Timmy's father had saved the plant where he works, a lot of money because he had come up with a new way to ship their products. This method proved to be more efficient and more cost-effective.
The babysitter was upstairs tucking Timmy in bed.
"Good night, Timmy," she said. "Have a good sleep."
Timmy could hear the bed bugs beneath his mattress. They were everywhere. They were making a terrible noise, as they stretched out their sharp claws. Timmy could feel their claws against his back.
"Aren't you forgetting something?" Timmy cried to the babysitter.
"Oh yeah!" the babysitter said. "Don't let the bed bugs bite!"
As the babysitter closed Timmy's bedroom door and turned off his light, he heard the bugs scamper back to their hideout.
"That was close," said Timmy.
The next afternoon, Timmy had to play baseball, after school. He was so exhausted after the game, that he fell asleep in the car on the way home. His father carried him upstairs to his bedroom.
About an hour later, Timmy's parents heard a scream coming from Timmy's room.
"Did you tell the bed bugs not to bite?" asked Mommy as they ran upstairs.
"I forgot," said Daddy.
They opened the door to Timmy's room and turned on the light.
"Don't let the bed bugs bite!" they both screamed.
They were just in time. One of the smaller bed bugs had given Timmy a little nip and that's when he woke up. The little bite really didn't hurt too much. He was more scared than hurt.
Timmy's parents sat down on the bed beside Timmy.
"That was a close call," Daddy said quickly.
"I don't think that we will ever forget to tell those nasty little bugs not to bite you!"
"You'd better not," said Timmy as he closed his eyes and went back to sleep.
"Night, night," Mommy and Daddy said together. "And, don't let the bed bugs bite."
The bed bugs soon got tired of not being able to bite Timmy so, they all packed up their things and left Timmy's house.
