SPOT'S RED DRESS
written by Debbie Williamson
"Oh Daisy!" exclaimed Spot, when she saw her friend walking up the laneway. "I love your new red dress."
"Why thank you!" exclaimed Daisy. "I bought it at the little dress shop in the village."
"I would just love to own such a nice dress," said Spot.
Jenny Hansen just came up the driveway. She just got off the school bus.
"Hi Spot!" exclaimed Jenny. "Hi Daisy!"
"Hi Jenny," said Spot. "What do you think of Daisy's dress? Isn't it beautiful?"
"Yes," said Jenny. "It is."
Later that evening, Jenny and Fawn were sitting on the bench outside.
"Valentine's Day is coming up soon," said Fawn. "I want to get something really special for Spot.
"I know what you can get for her," said Jenny. "And it will be perfect for Valentine's Day."
"Really," said Fawn.
"Yes," said Jenny. "Daisy came over today and Spot admired the new red dress that she was wearing."
"Does that mean that I will have to go to a dress shop?" asked Fawn. "Cause if that is the case, I'm not going."
"I'll go with you," said Jenny.
"You will," said Fawn.
Fawn and Jenny went into the village that Saturday. They went into the village dress shop and they saw the red dress right away. However, when they enquired about the price of it, Fawn was very disappointed.
"I can't afford that," said Fawn to Jenny, once they stepped outside. "What am I going to do?"
"I don't know," said Jenny. "I was going to help you out but I don't even have that much money."
Fawn and Jenny started walking home. They passed by the fabric shop.
"Wait here," said Jenny.
Jenny went into the fabric shop and a few minutes later she came out with a parcel under her arm and a big smile on her face.
"What are you going to do?" asked Fawn.
"I'm going to make Spot a dress," said Jenny.
Fawn and Jenny went home and Jenny spent the rest of the week sewing a dress for Spot. Each night, Fawn came over and talked to Jenny while she worked.
On Valentine's Day, both Fawn and Jenny presented the dress to Spot.
"Oh I love this dress," said Spot. "Thank you so much!"
