BUMP ON THE HEAD
written by Debbie Williamson
“Hey what was that?” asked Fawn, rubbing his head.
“What are you talking about?” asked Spot.
“Something fell on my head,” said Fawn. “And it hurt.”
Spot just started to laugh.
“What is so funny about me getting knocked on the head?” asked Fawn, almost crying.
“I’m sorry, Fawn,” said Spot. “I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing at that stupid crow.”
Fawn turned around and looked at what Spot was laughing at. A big black crow was sitting on a hydro wire. He had something in his mouth. It was a walnut. Fawn and Spot watched as the crow flew down and dropped the walnut on the ground and then he flew by and picked it up again and went and sat back on the hydro wire.
“Hey,” said Fawn. “I bet it was that walnut that was dropped onto my head.”
“I bet you are right,” said Spot.
Fawn and Spot watched the crow. It was quite hilarious to watch. The crow would fly off the hydro wire, drop the walnut onto the ground, pick it up and then fly back onto the hydro wire.
“Why is he doing that?” asked Fawn, now forgetting all about the bump on his head.
“I bet he is trying to crack it open,” said Spot.
“Hey,” said Fawn. “I bet that is what he is doing!”
No sooner did Fawn and Spot figure that out that they heard a large crack. They looked down onto the ground and saw the walnut was smashed into two pieces.
“Look,” said Fawn. “He did it!”
“Yes,” said Spot. “Look, now he’s going to eat the inside of the walnut!”
“I guess crows aren’t so dumb after all,” said Fawn.
“Definitely not,” said Spot.
