Story 275 – Valentine’s Day Secret
VALENTINE’S DAY SECRET

“I have a secret,” said Carl Coyote.
“What is your secret?” asked Fawn.
“Fawn,” said Spot. “If Carl told you what his secret was than it wouldn’t be a secret anymore.”
“Oh,” said Carl. “I can tell you and Fawn my secret.”
“Well tell us,” said Fawn, excitedly.
“But,” said Carl. “If I tell you my secret, you can’t tell anyone.”
“I promise,” said Fawn. “I won’t tell anyone.”
“Now Fawn,” said Spot. “He means anyone.”
“Yes,” said Fawn. “I know that.”
“Okay,” said Carl. “I’m in love with Jessie Coyote and on Valentine’s Day I want to ask her to marry me.”
“Wow!” exclaimed Fawn. “That is so cool. Wait until I tell Jessie!”
“Fawn!” exclaimed Spot. “Carl told you a secret. You can’t go telling Jessie anything about it. You can’t tell anyone.”
“Oh!” exclaimed Fawn, stamping his feet and crying. “Well, what good is a secret if you can’t tell anyone!”
“I guess I shouldn’t have told Fawn,” said Carl.
“Don’t worry about him,” said Spot. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t tell anyone.”
“Okay,” said Carl. “He only has three more days to go anyway.”
“True,” said Spot.
Fawn and Spot walked home.
“But wait until Jessie finds out,” said Fawn.
“Fawn!” exclaimed Spot. “You aren’t going to tell Jessie anything. It is up to Carl to tell her.”
“Oh alright,” said Fawn.
That night Fawn was outside with Spot, when Jessie came up from the mountain behind them.
“Hi Fawn and Spot,” said Jessie.
“Hi Jessie,” said Fawn.
“Have either of you seen Carl?” asked Jessie.
“Yes,” said Fawn. “We seen him this afternoon. He was telling us a sec…”
Spot kicked Fawn in the shin.
“What!” exclaimed Fawn. “I didn’t tell her anything.”
“Tell me what?” asked Jessie.
“Never mind,” said Fawn, rubbing his shin.
“What is going on?” asked Jessie.
“You’ll find out sooner or later,” said Fawn.
Jessie perked up her ears and thought she saw Carl far ahead in the next mountain over. She headed toward him as quickly as she could.
“Fawn,” said Spot. “You almost told Jessie. You can’t do that.”
“Well,” said Fawn. “Nobody should ever tell me a secret. I don’t like secrets.”
Valentine’s Day came and Jessie and Carl came up beside the barn where Fawn and Spot were standing.
“Guess what?” exclaimed Jessie.
“You and Carl are getting married!” exclaimed Fawn, bursting out the secret because he could not stand holding it in any longer.
Jessie and Carl laughed, while Jessie showed Fawn and Spot her engagement ring.
“I guess I won’t be able to tell you any more secrets,” said Carl, hugging Fawn.
“Please don’t!” exclaimed Fawn. “I don’t like secrets!”
