HURRY UP SLOW-POKE

written by Debbie Williamson

Slow Poke was a duck. He was a very slow duck sometimes, especially when his Mother wanted him to do something for her.

“Come on Slow Poke!” exclaimed Mother. “We have to hurry. We are going to be late getting to the mall. It closes at 6:00 p.m. And it is already 5:00.”

“Why are we going to the mall anyway?” asked Slow Poke. “I just want to stay home.”

”Slow Poke,” said Mother. “I have to buy you some new clothes for spring.”

“But I don’t need any new clothes,” said Slow Poke.

“Yes, you do!” exclaimed Mother. “Just look at your shoes. They are falling apart. You’re jacket is in terrible shape. It is full of holes!”

Slow Poke put his shoes on and while doing so, he broke his shoe lace.

“I guess I do need a new pair of shoes,” admitted Slow Poke.

Slow Poke put his jacket on and while doing so he noticed that he couldn’t put his arm in the sleeve because it was too small for him.

“I guess I do need a new jacket,” admitted Slow Poke.

Finally, Slow Poke was ready to go.

“Oh my!” exclaimed Mother, walking toward the mall entrance. “It looks like you will have to wait until tomorrow to get your new clothes. The mall is closed. We will have to get up very early and come here first thing tomorrow morning.”

“Okay,” said Slow Poke.

“You will have to hurry, though,” said Mother.

“I promise I will,” said Slow Poke, bending over to take his shoe off only to put a rip in his pants.
