BANANA CREAM PIE
written by Debbie Williamson
“Spot,” said Fawn, coming into the kitchen. “What smells so good?”
“I’m making a banana cream pie for Grampy,” said Spot.
“Grampy!” exclaimed Fawn, forgetting all about the pie for a second.
“Yes,” said Spot. “He’s coming for a visit.”
“Oh,” said Fawn. “I can’t wait. It has been almost a year since I’ve seen him.”
“Yes,” said Spot, putting the pie in the fridge to cool.
“So,” said Fawn, watching Spot with the pie. “Does this mean I don’t get a piece of that pie?”
“That is right,” said Fawn. “I am making it for Grampy and if you go anywhere near it, you will be in trouble.”
“That isn’t fair,” said Fawn. “I want some of it.”
“Fawn,” said Spot. “It’s for Grampy. Now just forget you even seen it.”
“I can’t,” said Fawn, sniffing the air. “It smells so good.”
Spot was afraid to leave Fawn in the kitchen in fear that he would eat that pie. However, she had some housework to do before Grampy arrived.
“I’ve got some things to do before Grampy comes,” said Spot. “Just behave yourself.”
The smell of that banana cream pie drove Fawn crazy. He just couldn’t help it. He wanted some so bad. Fawn went into the fridge and got the pie out. He took a spoon out of the utensil drawer and sat down in the middle of the kitchen floor with the pie.
“Fawn!” exclaimed Spot about half an hour later. “I told you that pie was for Grampy!”
Grampy just walked into the barn right at that moment and he laughed at the sight that he saw. He knew Spot had baked him that banana cream pie and he also knew that Fawn was not supposed to be eating it.
“Where’s your spoons?” asked Grampy, sitting on the kitchen floor with Fawn.
Both Grampy and Fawn polished off the whole banana cream pie all to themselves.
“Oh my,” said Grampy. “That was so good.”
“That was the best pie I have ever had,” said Fawn.
Spot couldn’t stay angry at Fawn for long. She knew that Grampy enjoyed his pie even though he had to unwillingly share it with Fawn.
