One December afternoon, I was bored. I decided that I wanted to do something that was out of the ordinary, really different. I decided that I would go for a walk. I dressed warmly and away I went.
Of course, once my little husky puppy, Kimo saw that I was going for a walk, I had to take her too. I mean, what could I do, leave her at home? She looked at me so sweetly with that one blue eye of hers and her tail was wagging a mile a minute. For some reason, Kimo really knows how to pull at my heart-strings.
Kimo and I were enjoying ourselves immensely. This walk was a rare treat for us as this was an unusually sunny day for December. There was no snow on the ground, yet, either. Kimo would run ahead of me and then quickly turn and run back to me. She did this several times, making me laugh at her foolish puppy ways.
All of a sudden, Kimo howled and hissed. I was a little bit frightened. This was not how my little Kimo normally reacts. Something was wrong.
I walked up to where she was. She had her ears pinned back and she had her sleek nose pointed down a hole in the ground.
"What is it, Kimo?" I asked.
Kimo turned toward me, her tail no longer wagging. She growled. I bent down to see what it was that had her all riled up.
"Alright, young lady," I heard a voice say to me. "Why are you and your little wolf disturbing our home?"
Peeking further into the hole, I could see movement of some kind. I was beginning to be a little bit scared.
"I'm not disturbing you and Kimo isn't a wolf, she is a Siberian Husky," I said into the hole. "Who are you?"
"We'll do the talking here," the voice said.
Kimo howled and growled again. That is when I noticed that standing on top of a rock beside the hole, were six little men.
"Oh my!" I exclaimed. "You guys look like the seven dwarfs."
"Well," said that same voice that I had been talking to earlier. "You look like Princess Snowstorm."
"That is Snow White," I said. "And, what happened to the seventh one of you?"
"What are you talking about?" asked one of the other little men. "There are only six of us, and who is Snow White. We are looking for Princess Snowstorm."
"I think that we had better get our fairy tales straightened around here," I said. "The story that I have read tells about seven little men and their friend, Snow White. A wicked witch gives Snow White a poisonous apple, which puts Snow White into a deep sleep, until Prince Charming comes along and gives her a kiss. His kiss breaks Snow White's spell. Now, what is your story?"
"Well, we are the six little men and we are looking for our enemy, Princess Snowstorm. You see, Princess Snowstorm is bitten by a wolf and she is put into a deep sleep. Then, Queen Summertime comes along and kisses each one of us and we live happily ever after."
"What happens to Princess Snowstorm?" I asked. "Does she live happily ever after, too?"
"Are you kidding?" laughed one of the little men. "Princess Snowstorm stays asleep."
"That's not fair," I said, angrily.
"Yes it is," said another of the little men. "You see, with Princess Snowstorm asleep, we will never have winter, again."
"Well, at least your story has a happy ending after all," I said, turning toward my puppy. "Come on Kimo, we have to get home, now."
I pulled on Kimo's chain just a little too tightly. She turned and took a little nip out of my leg. Within seconds, I fell into a deep sleep.
