TO THE OCEAN
written by Debbie Williamson
Sheri woke up one bright, sunny day and saw her little lime green coloured car sitting in the driveway. Sheri loved her little lime green car and in fact, she loved it so much that she nicked-named it the lime-o-bean. Well, this one day, it was just too nice a day to sit around and do nothing.
"To the ocean!" Sheri exclaimed to her car as she got into it and drove off.
Sheri drove and drove and drove. She listened to her music and was tapping her hands on the steering wheel to the beat. She was having a really good time.
About halfway to the ocean, Sheri saw a herd of mountain sheep. They were up ahead on the highway. Sheri drove closer to them and of course, drove slower but the mountain sheep did not budge an inch. They just stood defiantly in the middle of the highway. Sheri honked the horn on the lime-o-bean. Still they did not budge.
"To the ocean!" Sheri yelled out the car window to the mountain sheep.
The mountain sheep finally moved out of Sheri's way. Sheri continued on her trip to the ocean. A few minutes later, Sheri laughed out loud to herself when she saw the whole herd of mountain sheep following right behind her.
A few more miles of traveling and Sheri saw a grizzly bear sitting on the side of the road. He looked quite content sitting there eating wild berries from the nearby bushes.
"To the ocean," Sheri called out to the bear as she drove past.
Sure enough, the grizzly bear was in her rear view mirror following the mountain sheep, who were following Sheri and the lime-o-bean to the ocean.
Next, Sheri saw a cougar sitting by the edge of the river right beside the highway.
"To the ocean," said Sheri to the cougar.
Sheri looked out her rear view mirror and there was the cougar following the grizzly bear, who was following the mountain sheep, who were following Sheri and the lime-o-bean to the ocean.
Sheri saw snow on the mountainous highway up ahead of her. Sheri had never driven the lime-o-bean in snow before so, she was a little apprehensive. Sheri crawled through the snow slowly and carefully. She then noticed a bald eagle up ahead of her guiding the way for her.
"To the ocean," Sheri yelled out the window to the bald eagle.
The bald eagle led the way through the snow-covered, mountainous highway. Pretty soon, the highway returned to normal pavement and Sheri sighed with relief. A few minutes later, Sheri looked out her rear view mirror and she smiled to herself when she saw the bald eagle hovering over the cougar who was following the grizzly bear, who was following the mountain sheep, who were following Sheri and the lime-o-bean to the ocean.
A little while later, Sheri noticed a vast of amount of water up ahead of her.
"The ocean!" Sheri cried. "I'm at the ocean."
Sheri got out of the lime-o-bean and ran into the cold ocean water and just stood there for the longest time.
"What now?" said the grizzly bear to Sheri when she finally made her way back to shore.
"Gee," said Sheri. "I don't know but I think me and the lime-o-bean are going to go back home now."
