Story 562 – The Forgetful Leprechaun

THE FORGETFUL LEPRECHAUN

“Okay this is just strange,” said Fawn, coming inside the barn with a Christmas tree. “I just saw Lucky Leprechaun out in the forest.”

“Really,” said Spot. “That is strange considering that it is Christmas.”

Fawn and Spot didn’t think anything more about the leprechaun. They were busy hanging up Christmas decorations. About two hours later, there was a knock at the barn door.

“Who is it?” asked Spot.

“Lucky Leprechaun,” said a tiny voice from behind the door.

Spot opened the door and saw Lucky Leprechaun standing there.

“Happy St. Patrick’s Day,” said Lucky.

“Merry Christmas,” said Spot.

“Christmas?” asked Lucky.

“Yes,” said Fawn. “It isn’t St. Patrick’s Day. This is December not March.”

“Oh my!” exclaimed Lucky. “Did I ever get my dates mixed up? I’m either three months early or nine months late.”

Lucky went home and spent Christmas thinking about how he had messed up so bad. He chalked it all up to the fact that he had been wanting St. Patrick’s Day to come and it seemed it was taking forever.

St. Patrick’s Day came along finally. Fawn and Spot were busy with their spring cleaning when they heard a knock on the door.

“Oh,” said Fawn. “I bet that is Lucky. After all, today is St. Patrick’s Day!”

“Yes,” said Spot. “I’m sure he’s very excited today!”

Fawn answered the door and all Spot could hear is laughter coming from him.

“What is so funny?” asked Spot, coming to the door to find out what Fawn was laughing at.

“Oh my!” exclaimed Spot, bursting out in laughter too.

There, standing at the barn door was Lucky Leprechaun. However, he wasn’t dressed in his St. Patrick’s Day outfit. He was dressed up in a Santa Claus suit.

“Lucky,” said Spot. “This is St. Patrick’s Day.”

“Oh my!” exclaimed Lucky. “I messed up again.”

Spot disappeared into the kitchen and came back a few minutes later with a calendar in her hands.

“Thank you Spot,” said Lucky. “Now I should be able to get the holidays straight.”

“You are welcome,” said Spot.

“I’m going home to put this calendar on my wall,” said Lucky.

“And I hope you are going to change your outfit too,” said Fawn, still laughing.
