Story 608 – Centre Island

CENTRE ISLAND

written by Debbie Williamson

Hello everyone. I recently went to Centre Island, in Toronto, ON and I just wanted to tell you all about my fun time.

First of all, I picked the best day of all to go there. The sun was out and it was nice and warm.

I left my house around ten in the morning. I got to Toronto around eleven. I haven’t been to Toronto in awhile and I kind of forgot how busy it was. It took me about half an hour to find a parking spot and then when I did find one, it ended up being about a twenty minute walk to the harbour. I didn’t mind the walk, actually. Like I said, it was a nice day.

I finally got to where the ferry was, paid my ticket and waited in line. There were a lot of young kids in line and I kind of felt deja vu, you know, the feeling you get when you realize you’ve been there before. That is because I had been there before, when I was really young, my Dad had taken me there.
I got onto the ferry. What a beautiful view of the skyline of Toronto! I had not really ever taken a look at it from the waterfront. I saw the CN Tower and the Sky Dome. I also saw a few big ships in the harbour as well as the Toronto Star and a sugar factory.

The first thing I did, once I got to Centre Island was to get something to eat. I had a hamburger and fries. It was great!

Once I had eaten I started wandering around. I ended up in the amusement park. There were a lot of rides there for kids to go on, a ferris wheel, a lumber jack roller coaster and a very old but beautiful carrousel. All of the animals on the carrousel were hand-carved. They were beautiful!

Centre Island also had a small farm. Oh, did that one piggy ever stink! I had to hold my nose to walk past him. The farm had a couple of emus, who were hysterical. One stood staring right at me. There were some donkeys, lambs, goats, rabbits and baby chicks. There were also ponies that young kids could ride on. I was able to pet one of the donkeys.

I was getting pretty warm so I had a soft chocolate ice-cream cone. It was the best ice-cream cone that I ever had.

Needless to say, I enjoyed my to Centre Island very much.
