Story 622 – Beijing Olympics 2008

BEIJING OLYMPICS 2008

As a Canadian citizen, the Olympics are an event that we look forward to. Canadians are really into sporting events. We are either athletes or fans, one or the other. We are very athletic in nature and who really can blame us. We have to stay warm somehow living in our colder climate. There is no better way to stay warm than working out or cheering for you favourite athlete.

Canadians have a strong bond toward their athletes and we love to support them. Canadians will go to great lengths to cheer for their athletes by paying high ticket prices or travelling to far ends of the world.
I have always watched the Olympic games over the years, ever since I was a little kid. The Beijing Olympic games are no exception. For the first whole week of these Olympics, Canada had won no medals whatsoever. I wanted to see Canada with at least one medal on the scoreboard so bad. I wished and wished and prayed and prayed and then we got our first one, a silver medal won by our rowing team. To date, Canada now has 15 medals.

I am looking forward to the Olympic Games in 2010 in Vancouver, BC. It is exciting to see the preparation that is taking place and exciting to know that these games are only two years away. I live in Kamloops, BC right now, which is about four hours from Vancouver so I’m sure we’ll see some part of the Olympics right from our doorstop. My wish is to see if the Olympic torch will come through Kamloops to travel to its destination in Vancouver because if the torch passes through here, I will be there to see it.
