SILLY FRED FORGETS MOTHER’S DAY
written by Debbie Williamson
Silly Fred was walking home from the grocery store and saw his Mother pull up into his driveway.
“Mother,” said Silly Fred, a little surprised. “It is so nice to see you.”
“Silly Fred,” said Mother. “You invited me to come for dinner.”
“I did,” said Silly Fred, trying to think of why he had invited his Mother for dinner and then thinking that it must be her birthday. “Happy Birthday!”
“It isn’t my birthday,” said Mother. “It is Mother’s Day.”
“Well then,” said Silly Fred. “Happy Mother’s Day.”
“Thank you,” said Mother. “Now, what is for dinner?”
“Dinner!” exclaimed Silly Fred.
“Oh dear,” said Mother. “You forgot about cooking me dinner.”
“Well actually,” said Silly Fred, not able to lie to his Mother. “I did forget. However, there is a nice new restaurant down the street. How about going out for dinner?”
“Sure,” said Mother. “Do you have your wallet with you?”
”Yes,” said Silly Fred. “I do.”
Silly Fred and Mother went inside the house so that he could put the groceries away. Out of force of habit, he set his wallet on the kitchen counter.
Silly Fred and Mother had a nice meal together. Silly Fred went to pay for the meal but he couldn’t find his wallet.
“Are you looking for this?” asked Mother, handing Silly Fred his wallet that she saw him put on the counter at home.
“Yes,” said Silly Fred, a little embarrassed. “Thank you.”
