BEHIND THE GATE
written by Debbie Williamson
I live behind a barbed fence with a gate. No, it is not a prison. It is not an institution and it is not a hospital that I live in. I live in an actual home with an actual lawn and an actual driveway.
At times the fence and the gate are intimidating and a little scary. For the most part though, living behind the gate is safe and secure. I do not fear living behind the gate.
Living behind the gate lets me be creative. I can write all day and all night if I want. As a matter of fact, I can do anything I want to.
Behind the gate, I can think clearer and I am more productive. I enjoy living my life very much, living behind the gate.
I used to live in apartment buildings, where some actually had a balcony. I always felt confined. The only thing I would think of living in an apartment building, was to get out and get away from it.
Living behind the gate is like my own little paradise. When I get home from work and close that gate behind me, the rest of the world fades away. I love my life behind the gate and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
