Winter Indoor Fun

WINTER INDOOR FUN written by Debbie Williamson The Poor Mountain Family were inside their log cabin, where it was nice and cozy and warm. Poor Mountain Father was looking out the window. He had a scowl on his face.   "My, "said Poor Mountain Mother, watching him, "What is with that look?"   "It is so nasty outside, " said Poor Mountain Father. "The weather really doesn't seem to be letting up."   It had been snowing for the last few days and it was really starting to pile up.   "The kids are really starting to get restless," said Poor Mountain Mother. "They have not been outside in days."   "I've got an idea, " said Poor Mountain Father. "Let's do some indoor work and we can have some indoor fun.  Let's build that entertainment center that we have talked about … Read entire article »

Wild Cougar

WILD COUGAR written by Debbie Williamson "I'm hungry and I want something to eat and I want it now!'' screamed the hungry cougar from his den. The cougar walked toward the doorway and stood looking out over the snow-covered mountains. It was a crisp cold morning. The trees and ground were covered with frost. ''It is too cold out here,'' said the cougar, walking back into the warmth of his den. "I guess I'll have to break out my stash of food,'' said the cougar, who was referring to some food he had stored away for a rainy day. ''Gee Mr. Cougar,'' said a loud voice from outside his den. ''I sure wish I had some food to eat. I'm starving.'' The cougar knew who's voice that was, right away. ''Mr. Wolf,'' said the cougar. ''I don't have … Read entire article »

Winter Blues

WINTER BLUES written by Debbie Williamson Fawn and Spot were sitting in the kitchen of their barn one winter day. It was very cold outside. Fawn was fidgety and Spot knew why. He was very bored and Spot was, too. They had been stuck inside for the past week because of the cold weather.   "Alright," said Spot. "Enough of this."   "What are you talking about?" asked Fawn.   "Look I'm just as bored as you are," said Spot. "We've got to do something to take our minds off this cold weather and the fact that we can't go outside these days."   "Yes," said Fawn. "But what can we do? We need to do something that is fun and that will warm us up too."   "I've got a good idea," said Spot. "Let's do some baking."   "I guess," said Fawn. … Read entire article »

Sunshine

SUNSHINE written by Debbie Williamson Fawn and Spot were in their barn one cold, damp autumn day.   "I am so cold,'' said Fawn, shivering. ''Why is it so cold outside?''   ''It's been raining for days now,'' said Spot. "I wish the sun would come out.''   ''Yes,'' agreed Fawn. ''That is what we need.''   A few minutes later Fawn and Spot could hear laughter coming from outside. They both looked out the barn window and could see Ricky and Jenny Hansen playing. Then Fawn noticed something in the sky. It was a bright sunshine.   "Look,'' said Fawn, pointing out the window. ''The sun is out!''   Fawn ran for the barn door as quickly as he could go. Spot was right behind him.   ''Look,'' said Jenny, when she saw Fawn and Spot come outside. ''Fawn and Spot are outside too! They … Read entire article »

May with No Flowers

MAY WITH NO FLOWERS written by Debbie Williamson "Mommy, when is the sun ever going to shine!" exclaimed five year old, Jamie. "I want to go outside and play." "It's pretty cold out today," said Mommy. "However, I think that you could go outside and play for a little while. You have to dress warmly, though." "Okay," said Jamie. "Do you want to come outside too?" "You know something," Mommy said. "It's been a long time since I've gone outside to play with you. Yes, let's do that." "Oh goodie!" exclaimed Jamie, excitedly. Jamie and Mommy got dressed in their warm, winter clothing. They were on their way out the door, when Mommy spotted the calendar. "Look Jamie," said Mommy. "It's been so cold that we forgot to change the calendar. It's now May." Mommy took her gloves off … Read entire article »

Santa is Confused

SANTA IS CONFUSED written by Debbie Williamson One spring day, it turned very cold. In fact, it turned so cold that it snowed. Soon, snow covered the green grass and the new buds that were forming on the trees. Santa Claus was in his castle, way up in the North Pole. Now, if you thought that it was cold down here where we are, then you could imagine how could it was in the North Pole! It was freezing! Santa got up from his bed and looked out the window. "My, look at that!" exclaimed Santa Claus. "It is snowing out! It must be Christmas, again! I'd better get the elves working on those toys, and fast. We haven't much time to waste!" Santa Claus got dressed in his red suit and he went downstairs. He … Read entire article »

November in the City

NOVEMBER IN THE CITY written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! This is Cecil City. I'm one of the Canadian Brothers. I live in Ontario, Canada, in the city of Toronto. It is now November in the city. November can be a very unpredictable month for weather because it can be sometimes warm and sometimes very cold. The temperature can fluctuate quite a bit. One moment it can be warm and sunny and the next it can be snowing and cold. You never know how to dress in November so what I do is dress in layers. This way I am comfortable no matter what it is doing outside. November is a very lonely month. Most of the leaves have blown off the trees all around the city and it looks very bare and lonely. … Read entire article »

Warmth

WARMTH written by Debbie Williamson Sitting in front of the fireplace on a cold winter evening, wrapped up in my favourite blanket is my idea of warmth, or soaking in a very warm bathtub for hours on end. Warmth is about all I can stand to think of while I stand outside in the freezing cold, waiting for my bus to come. Naturally my bus is late this morning. I decided that I would go into the coffee shop up the street and have a coffee. Just as I put my hand on the door to the coffee shop, I heard the familiar sound of my bus coming up the street. "Coffee or get to work on time," I said to myself. I knew what the answer to that question was, even before I had … Read entire article »
