Story 648 – Rainy Days

RAINY DAYS written by Debbie Williamson Slow-Poke was out walking with his mother, Mrs. Duck, one hot summer day. He wished so much that it would rain because he wanted to play in puddles and splash around. Slow-Poke loved the rain and why wouldn’t he, he’s a duck. “Hey Slow-Poke,” said Mother, about an hour into their walk. “It actually looks like it is going to rain.” “Goodie,” exclaimed Slow-Poke, jumping up and down for joy. A big gust of wind came along just then and Mother took Slow-Poke by the hand and started running as fast as she could toward their home at the ranch. “What are you doing?” asked Slow-Poke. “It is raining. We love the rain.” “Oh we do love the rain,” said Mother, running as fast as she could. “However, we do not … Read entire article »

Story 616 – Mommy Please

MOMMY PLEASE written by Debbie Williamson Slow Poke Duck was outside walking around the front lawn, when a leaf fell right on top of his head. “Oh my!” exclaimed Slow Poke, looking up into the tree that was right above him. ”Mrs. Squirrel, what are you doing up there?” ”I’m collecting acorns,” Mrs. Squirrel said. “Why do you collect acorns?” asked Slow Poke. ”I collect comic books.” “Squirrels and chipmunks have to collect acorns and store them away for the winter,” said Mrs. Squirrel. ”That is what we eat during the cold winter.” ”Oh!” laughed Slow Poke. “I thought you meant that you collect them as a hobby.” ”No you silly thing,” said Mrs. Squirrel. “I’m sure I could find a better hobby than this!” Slow Poke went into the barn to find his Mother. “Mommy, how come ducks don’t … Read entire article »

Story 492 – The Real Ugly Duckling

THE REAL UGLY DUCKLING written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! I’m just a little duckling swimming in a lake in British Columbia, Canada just trying to grow up to be a normal little duck. However, it looks to me like my life will never be normal and hasn’t been normal since the day I was hatched. See, before I was hatched and when I was still inside my egg, a goose, who had just lost her family of goslings to predators, came along and stole me from my mother, who was a mallard duck. The day I hatched I knew something was different about me. I didn’t honk like a goose, I quacked like a duck. I didn’t seem to be growing as quickly as my cousin, goslings. They were about three times … Read entire article »

Story 478 – Slow-Poke Meets Sally Snail

SLOW-POKE MEETS SALLY SNAIL written by Debbie Williamson “It sure is a nice day for a walk,” said Slow-Poke Duck as he walks out of the barn door. “Hurry back,” called Mother Duck. “I need that milk for dinner.” “I will Mother,” said Slow-Poke. “I will hurry as quickly as I can.” Now, for anyone else that wouldn’t have been a problem but for Slow-Poke it is a major problem because Slow-Poke is so very slow. He knew that he was going to have to hurry though. He tried putting his web feet one in front of the other more quickly than usual but the problem is that he fell right onto his behind. “Mother said I have to hurry,” said Slow-Poke getting himself up off the side of the road and dusting himself off. “What do … Read entire article »

I’m tired.” “But Slow-Poke,” said Mother. “It is Easter morning. All the farm animals are already outside searching for their Easter eggs.” “Oh no!” exclaimed Slow-Poke, rolling over slowly to find his slippers. “I’m not going to get anything for Easter now!” Slow-Poke sat on the edge of his bed, tears streaming down his face. “Come on Slow-Poke,” said Mother, comforting her son. “If you hurry up, I’ll show you where there are some Easter eggs that no-one knows about.” “But how do you know where they are?” asked Slow-Poke, wiping the tears on the sleeve of his pajamas. “Because I saw Easter Bunny last night just after you … Read entire article »

He had a crush on Sally and he was really nervous. “What are you so nervous about?” asked Freddy. Slow-Poke just shrugged his shoulders. He didn’t quite know how to explain his feelings to his friend because he didn’t quite understand himself what was going on. Freddy took Slow-Poke by the hand and led him out the door. They went to Sally’s house and Sally, and her sister, Suzie were waiting on the front porch. Slow-Poke couldn’t believe how pretty Sally was. She had her … Read entire article »

We are going to be late getting to the mall. It closes at 6:00 p.m. And it is already 5:00.” “Why are we going to the mall anyway?” asked Slow Poke. “I just want to stay home.” ”Slow Poke,” said Mother. “I have to buy you some new clothes for spring.” “But I don’t need any new clothes,” said Slow Poke. “Yes, you do!” exclaimed Mother. “Just look at your shoes.
