Travellin’ Rick Visits an Airport

TRAVELLIN' RICK VISITS AN AIRPORT written by Debbie Williamson “Hello there, everyone,” said Travellin’ Rick, carrying a large suitcase under his arms. “I’m going on a trip in an airplane. Why don’t you join me? I’ve got a few more things to do, so grab your suitcase and meet me on my front porch.” Travellin’ Rick set his suitcase down by the front door and picked up the telephone. “This is Travellin’ Rick, calling,” said Travellin’ Rick into the receiver. “I need a taxi to come and pick me up and take me to the airport.” Once he finished the telephone call, Travellin’ Rick locked all the windows and doors. He also made sure that his plants had plenty of water. Picking up his suitcase once again, Travellin Rick stood outside on his front porch. “Well, … Read entire article »

Story 506 – Labour Day Picnic

LABOUR DAY PICNIC written by Debbie Williamson “Fawn,” said Spot, shaking her friend, who was sound asleep. “Come on. Wake up. We’re having a picnic today.” “What?” asked Fawn, groggily. “What are you talking about?” “We’re having a picnic today,” said Spot. “It’s Labour Day and the Hansen’s are taking us on a picnic.” Fawn woke up, showered, dressed and came out into the kitchen where Spot was putting some baked goods into a picnic basket. “So what is Labour Day?” asked Fawn. “Well,” said Spot. “Labour Day is a holiday that falls on the first Monday of September.” “Oh,” said Fawn. “Well, I like holidays, but why exactly is there a holiday called Labour Day?” “That is a good question,” said Spot. “Labour Day is a celebration of the eight hour workday.” “Oh,” said Fawn. “So, in other words, … Read entire article »

BC Day

BC DAY written by Debbie Williamson "Fawn," said Spot. "What are we going to do tomorrow?" "I don't know," said Fawn, playing his favourite computer game. "How about nothing?" "Nothing!" exclaimed Spot. "Are you kidding? Do you not know that tomorrow is a holiday?" "It is?" asked Fawn. "Yes it is," said Spot. "It is BC Day." "Cool," said Fawn. "I like the sound of that holiday, especially since we now live in BC." "Yeah me too," said Spot. "So are we going to do something tomorrow then?" "Sure," said Fawn. "But what?" "Well," said Spot. "Since BC Day is all about a celebration of the pioneers who built this province, I thought we could do something pioneerish." "Sure," said Fawn, laughing. "Like climb a mountain." "Yes," said Spot. "After all the pioneers would have had to climb a lot of mountains … Read entire article »

Santa Got Stuck in the Chimney

SANTA GOT STUCK IN THE CHIMNEY written by Debbie Williamson It was Christmas Eve. The children had hung their stockings by the fireplace and were all snug in their beds. Sometime during the night, they were visited by a big, jolly, old man dressed in red. You got it, it was Santa Claus! Santa and his bright red toy bag came down the chimney. This was his last stop of the night. First, he filled each stocking with special treats. Then, for each child, he left some gifts. "A new bike for Suzie," said Santa, pulling a beautiful pink bicycle out of his bag. "And, a train set for Billy." By the time Santa was finished his work, he was a little hungry. He spotted a glass of milk and a plate of goodies, sitting on … Read entire article »

The Troll Family’s Vacation

THE TROLL FAMILY'S VACATION written by Debbie Williamson “Troll Mother!” exclaimed Troll Sister, who was sitting in the hallway taking her winter boots off. “I’m so cold! When is spring going to be here?” Troll Sister and Troll Brother had just come home from school. It was a blistering cold day. “Sooner than you think, my Troll Dears, sooner than you think,” said Troll Mother, tucking a magazine behind her back, and smiling from ear to ear. “What do you have there?” asked Troll Brother, being one not to miss anything. “None of your business,” said Troll Mother. “It’s a surprise!” “Oh, that figures,” said Troll Brother. “Why are we always the last to know about surprises around here?” “Because,” said Troll Mother. “When you do find out about this surprise, you will be so happy!” “Happy isn’t the … Read entire article »
