Story 845 – Father`s Day Fishing

FATHER`S DAY FISHING written by Debbie Williamson “What are we going to do next weekend?” asked Poor Mountain Father. “I thought we would go on a picnic,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “It is Father’s Day next weekend,” said Poor Mountain Father. “I was kind of hoping that we could go fishing.” “The children are really looking forward to having a picnic,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “Poor Mountain Sister is going to help me make potato salad and we are going to make some fried chicken too.” “Oh okay,” said Poor Mountain Father, a bit disappointed that he didn’t get to choose what he wanted to do on Father’s Day. Father’s Day morning came and Poor Mountain Father kept busy outdoors until it was time to leave for the picnic. “He is really disappointed,” said Poor Mountain Sister, helping … Read entire article »

SUMMER FUN WITH TRAVELLIN’ RICK written by Debbie Williamson Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your summer holidays. I know I sure am. The weather has been great and I’ve just been invited to a huge picnic, a family reunion picnic. There are going to be over one hundred members of my family there. My family members are all spread out over Canada and a few of them are living in the United States, too. We live so far apart that we don’t get to see each other much. Sometimes that is a good thing but sometimes it’s not. The picnic is going to be held at Algonquin Park which is located in northern Ontario and is renowned for it’s wildlife and it’s beauty. Besides, it is very close to my grandparents cottage … Read entire article »

Story 506 – Labour Day Picnic

LABOUR DAY PICNIC written by Debbie Williamson “Fawn,” said Spot, shaking her friend, who was sound asleep. “Come on. Wake up. We’re having a picnic today.” “What?” asked Fawn, groggily. “What are you talking about?” “We’re having a picnic today,” said Spot. “It’s Labour Day and the Hansen’s are taking us on a picnic.” Fawn woke up, showered, dressed and came out into the kitchen where Spot was putting some baked goods into a picnic basket. “So what is Labour Day?” asked Fawn. “Well,” said Spot. “Labour Day is a holiday that falls on the first Monday of September.” “Oh,” said Fawn. “Well, I like holidays, but why exactly is there a holiday called Labour Day?” “That is a good question,” said Spot. “Labour Day is a celebration of the eight hour workday.” “Oh,” said Fawn. “So, in other words, … Read entire article »

Story 454 – Victoria Day Picnic

VICTORIA DAY PICNIC written by Debbie Williamson      “Hey Fawn,” called Spot from the kitchen. “Come quick.”      “Oh no!” cried Fawn, when he looked out the kitchen window and saw rain pouring down. “Now, what are we going to do?”      “Relax,” said Spot. “The rain hasn’t ruined everything.”      “What are you talking about?” asked Fawn, very discouraged. “How can we have a picnic in the rain?”      “We will have our picnic right here in the barn instead,” said Spot.      “That would work!” exclaimed Fawn, happily.      Spot went to the bedroom and grabbed a woolen blanket from the foot of her bed.      “Move the coffee table out of the way,” she said to Fawn as she laid the blanket over the living-room carpet.      Fawn quickly did as he was told.      “Okay,” said Spot. … Read entire article »

August in the Mountains

AUGUST IN THE MOUNTAINS written by Debbie Williamson Hello everyone! This is Mountain Mike from British Columbia, Canada. It is the month of August here now and it is very hot.   August is the time of year that we folks in the mountains get out and enjoy the hot weather and fresh mountain air. August is the time of year that a lot of outdoor activities take place.   I like to spend my August days at the lake. I like to go fishing a lot. It is very relaxing to be out in the middle of the lake on a hot day in a boat. There is nothing like it.   I usually go fishing at the crack of dawn, just before the sun comes up. I usually see a bald eagle soar in the sky, … Read entire article »

Chester’s Picnic

CHESTER'S PICNIC written by Debbie Williamson ''Hey Chester,'' said his sister, Suzie. ''Wait up!'' Chester stopped walking to let Suzie catch up to him. ''What's up?'' asked Chester, as Suzie approached him. ''The animals in the forest are going to have a picnic, this Saturday,'' said Suzie, all out of breath. ''They want to know if you would like to come.'' ''I've never been to a picnic,'' said Chester. ''What is a picnic?'' ''Well,'' said Suzie. ''Picnics are fun. You bring an old blanket and a basket of food. You can play games or go swimming.'' ''That sounds like fun,'' said Chester. ''So then you'll come,'' said Suzie. ''Sure,'' said Chester. ''I'd love to come.'' Chester spent the rest of the week getting ready for the picnic. He made a loaf of his favourite bread, acorn loaf, and he made a … Read entire article »

I’ve never been on a picnic before.” “Either have I,” said Fawn. “Let’s do it.” “I don’t know about that,” said Spot. “Whenever you decide to do something, we always end up getting into trouble.” “That might be true sometimes,” said Fawn. “Honestly, Spot, what kind of trouble could I get into … Read entire article »

Grizzly’s Picnic

GRIZZLY'S PICNIC written by Debbie Williamson While camping near Trail, BC in July of 2004, we left the campsite for one hour to buy some groceries in the nearest town. When we came back, we noticed that our picnic table had been moved. We didn’t think too much about it. We unloaded the grocery bags from our van and set them on the picnic table. “Where is our cooler?” asked my husband, with a confused look on his face. “What do you mean?” I asked. “The cooler was right underneath the picnic table when we left.” I bent down and took a look under the picnic table. “There is no cooler,” I said. “Well this is just great,” said my husband. “We have to get these groceries put away.” We noticed some movement in our tent and slowly walked … Read entire article »
