Story 680 – Poor Mountain Mother’s Special Valentine’s

POOR MOUNTAIN MOTHER’S SPECIAL VALENTINE’S written by Debbie Williamson The Poor Mountain Family were sitting around their kitchen table just after finishing dinner. “Valentine’s Day is only a few days away,” said Poor Mountain Sister. “We should do something special for Poor Mountain Mother,” said Poor Mountain Brother, as Poor Mountain Mother left the table to answer the phone.” “We really should,” said Poor Mountain Sister. “However, we don’t have any money? What could we do?” Poor Mountain Father stood up and reached into his pocket and pulled out a crisp $50 bill. The two Poor Mountain children couldn’t believe their eyes. They haven’t seen a $50 bill in so long. “Where did you get that?” asked Poor Mountain Brother. “I got a bonus from the mill today,” said Poor Mountain Father. “I can’t think of a better … Read entire article »

Winter Indoor Fun

WINTER INDOOR FUN written by Debbie Williamson The Poor Mountain Family were inside their log cabin, where it was nice and cozy and warm. Poor Mountain Father was looking out the window. He had a scowl on his face.   "My, "said Poor Mountain Mother, watching him, "What is with that look?"   "It is so nasty outside, " said Poor Mountain Father. "The weather really doesn't seem to be letting up."   It had been snowing for the last few days and it was really starting to pile up.   "The kids are really starting to get restless," said Poor Mountain Mother. "They have not been outside in days."   "I've got an idea, " said Poor Mountain Father. Poor Mountain Father

POOR MOUNTAIN FATHER The Poor Mountain Family were a set of characters that I created back in 2005 when I moved to British Columbia, Canada. I wanted a set of characters in which they respect each other as a family through thick and thin. Poor Mountain Father is the head of the Poor Mountain Family. He may not have much money but he still provides for his family as best as he can under the circumstances. Poor Mountain Father wanted a better life for his children. He wanted them to grow up in the fresh air of the mountains and not have to put up with pollution and noise. Poor Mountain Father is very kind and generous and not just generous with money, which he doesn’t have a lot of. He knows how … Read entire article »

Halloween Celebration

HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION written by Debbie Williamson "I think this year for Halloween we should have some fun with the children," said Poor Mountain Father, after the Poor Mountain children and left for school. "Like what kind of fun?" asked Poor Mountain Mother. "Well," said Poor Mountain Father. "It is really difficult for the children to go trick-or-treating here in the mountains so, I was thinking, we should have a little party for them instead." "That sounds like a really fun idea," said Poor Mountain Mother. "I could bake a Halloween cake." "Oh that would be really great," said Poor Mountain Father. "The children would love it. I was also thinking that we could play some games and carve a pumpkin." Poor Mountain Mother and Poor Mountain Father were very excited about their plan for a Halloween party … Read entire article »

Story 820 – Easter Snow

EASTER SNOW written by Debbie Williamson “Oh no!” exclaimed Poor Mountain Sister, just getting up out of bed, still in slippers and housecoat. “What!” exclaimed Poor Mountain Brother, who had been awake for awhile and then seeing what his sister was looking at said, “Oh it is only snow. What is wrong with that?” “It is Easter morning,” said Poor Mountain Sister. “That is what is wrong with that. How are we going to have our Easter egg hunt outside if there is snow on the ground?” “It won’t last long,” said Poor Mountain Mother, coming into the kitchen after having a cup of coffee. “Are you sure?” asked Poor Mountain Sister. “Positive,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “This is Easter snow. Easter snow is big and fluffy and doesn’t really stick to anything. It disappears as soon … Read entire article »

POOR MOUNTAIN FATHER FORGETS VALENTINE’S DAY written by Debbie Williamson The sun was shining bright through the kitchen window. It was going to be a beautiful day. Poor Mountain Mother was inside the log cabin, putting the freshly baked Valentine’s Day cookies in the cookie jar. She was very excited and jittery. Valentine’s Day only comes once a year and it is a time that she always spends with her family. Poor Mountain Sister and Poor Mountain Brother were just on their way out the door to catch the school bus. “Gee Poor Mountain Mother looks so happy and cheery this morning,” commented Poor Mountain Sister. “I know,” said Poor Mountain Brother. “After all it is Valentine’s Day.” “Yes,” said Poor Mountain Sister. “She always gets so excited on Valentine’s Day.” “I know,” said Poor Mountain Brother, … Read entire article »

OLD NEWSPAPER written by Debbie Williamson Poor Mountain Mother and Poor Mountain Father were sitting in their log cabin. “Gee,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “It sure was a beautiful day outside today.” “Yes,” said Poor Mountain Father. “Except it would have been nicer if the sun was shining.” “It is supposed to shine tomorrow,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “Really?” asked Poor Mountain Father, laying down his newspaper that he was reading. “Yes,” said Poor Mountain Mother. “At least that is what I read in the paper this morning.” “Are you talking about this paper?” asked Poor Mountain Father, pointing to the paper that he just laid down on the coffee table. “Yes,” said Poor Mountain Mother, recognizing the photograph on the front page.
